Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

Steven Welch, a Toyota salesman from Nashville and Youtuber, is saying the 4Runner is delayed until 2025.

He was the first person on YouTube to show all of the Tundra options and pricing last year. I'm surprised he kept his job since he scooped everyone. He is saying this info comes from things he knows so it appears he is spilling the beans so to speak.
Says the Tacoma will keep the 3.5 V6 add the 2.5 hybrid with increased power and then third option will be full electric.
4Runner will get 2.4 turbo plus hybrid and the Land Cruiser is coming back to the US next fall as a 2024 MY. He says this is the main reason for delaying the 4Runner until 2025, Toyota doesn't want to have both of those competing in anyway.
The new Toyota truck that will compete with the Maverick will be built on the Rav4 chasis.

There was some speculation on MY2025 being the 6th gen debut a while back. Makes me wonder what final little goodies Toyota will throw on the MY2024 as a goodbye gift (some MY2023 trims got a surprise heated steering wheel apparently.)

lol, I agree having the last MY of the generation would be cool. I waited for the '23 (assuming it was the last of its kind) for that very reason. I don't think the head unit would be in play but dual climate control for lower trims? JBL 15 speaker as an option for lower trims? Things that already exist but are trim specific...

If it were actually confirmed that MY24 was still a 5th gen, I would consider cancelling my order and waiting until next summer.

Interesting... the video has been removed from YouTube. Perhaps he mentioned something he wasn't supposed to. It was sort of a wink-wink, nudge-nudge sort of thing. 2024 Land Cruiser coming in the fall of 2023 was a sure thing, 4runner postponed until 2025 mainly because of the LC300 coming and the '24 Tacoma keeping the 3.5 V6 and getting the Highlander's hybrid engine with an increase in horsepower were the three big things. Like I said, I remember him last year showing print outs for every Tundra model with price at least a week before anyone else reported it.
I have said for a while the 6th gen 4Runner won't come out until 2025. I think it will be built in Mexico and share the same engine and transmission as the Tacoma but if this guy is right I doubt Toyota would put the 2.4T in the 4R in the same factory that Tacos get a 3.5 and 2.5 hybrid.

I'm very curious about the tacoma getting the 2.5 hybrid. That powertrain generally is designed to maximize MPG, but it sacrifices towing and off-road capabilities. Now if they use the prime powertrain with the 2.5 that would be cool.

I also wonder if the 3.5 is only sticking around for manual trims. I can't imagine it wouldn't transition to the 2.4T in the automatic tims

EDIT: Just thought about it and my best guess is the Tacoma getting the Tundra's detuned 3.5 which is found in the SR trims

With the Highlander and other lexus vehicles moving away form the old 3.5L V6, I find it odd that the redesigned Tacoma would carry on with it. I imagine the new Hybrid powertrain and 2.4T would be the sole offerings, but what do I know

As I've mentioned before we have the Rav4 with the 2.5hybrid. It's fine for a Rav4 weighted vehicle. Not great. But fine. It still screams going up mountain passes but does well around town. I imagine it's great at sea level.

I cannot stress enough that there isn't a chance in hell I would buy a heavier vehicle with that engine in it.

If you gave it to me I would sell it immediately.

Plenty of torque for sure. Imaging a Forerunner with a giant blowoff valve for the turbo is a bit strange tho.

I could not agree with this more. The Rav4 weighs between 1,000 and 1,300 lbs less than the 4Runner. No way that motor in its current form belongs in a 4Runner.

Wouldn't surprise me if Toyota uses the Rav4 engine in the 6th gen 4Runner. Subaru has the same FA24F turbo engine in the Outback and the larger, heavier Ascent as a part of their global platform...and Toyota owns a 20% stake in Subaru Corp.

The highlander and rav4 2.5l hybrids are the same engine. It doesn't belong in a highlander/minivan much less a truck - unless its a maverick competitor.

Not that it matters, but we've made a family decision that our current Toyotas will be our last. Sure they've been reliable so far (but neither have even 40k on them), but they have crap sound deadening, lackluster handling, mediocre to poor performing engines, and that famed reliability seems to be slipping as of late with their new models.

Totally agree. I test drove a 2023 CRV the other day and it sounded like there were holes in the floor, all you could hear were the tires. As crappy as the 5th gen 4runner is on gas it is a quality tightly built vehicle. The new Suburbans we get at work and super duty trucks are still built well but all of the next gen stuff in the past 4-5 years is built on the cheap. Don't see this getting any better. Even the new Tundra has a lot of cheap crap on it. Tinny and noisy.

also the torque band matters. not sure how easy it is to change where the torque peaks but i would think the crown would be at a higher RPM than what we would want on the 4Runner
