Best Street Tire Choices for 06 Limited

My wifes 06 Limited 4x4 v6 is in need of new tires. It currently still has the factory 265/60-18 tires on right now. I want a good durable tire that is quite,good ride, good wear ( i know everyone wants them options, usually can't get everything though). It is a 100% highway 4runner, we live in the south so will not be driving in any snow, just rain. My local tire guy recommends the Toyo, but the tires he priced me seemed pretty high. So i was gonna see what kinda tires yall like.

I'm going to stay with factory size also. Also i don't want tires that are gonna break the bank, i dont mind at all paying more for a good tire that is gonna last me a good lil while. But anyways i'm open for any options yall have.

from the way & where you drive, & wanting a smooth, quiet, long lasting tire, i think you cant go wrong with the GOODYEAR WRANGLER SILENT ARMOUR. theyre not real cheep but youll get alot of miles out of them. theyre great in rain too. you wont regret them on the highway either. (p) range
 
Look into the Firestone Destination LT's. I had them on after the Bridgestone REVO's and they're just a click or 2 worse in snow but equal in wet and dry plus a lot cheaper than the REVO's were. They also improved my fuel mileage over the REVO's.

Firestone Destination LE's is what Nuke was referring to, I think, not LT's (no such tire). Those do have a slightly higher rating than the Michelins, but the Michelins are much cheaper and there seems to be more complaints with the LE's.
 
I have used the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza on 2 vehicles with great results. It's a very highway, luxury biased tire that's quiet, wears well and behaves very well in the rain. It's a very 'round' tire too. They seem to require minimal weight to balance and they hold balance well.

Don't confuse these with other Dueler models....

Thanks for the correction, p nut. You're correct. I currently have the Destination AT's and had my "T"s and "E"s confused.

Personally, I don't care for the Michelin's hard rubber compound but that may only be an issue in the colder climates I've lived in. Probably not as much an issue where the OP lives.
 
Consumer Reports' latest tire rankings have the General Grabber HTS and Continental Cross Contact LX rated very highly. These high rankings also correspond with the top ratings given these tires at Tire Rack. Go to tirerack.com and you'll see for yourself.

You can get these tires for half what you'd pay for the Cross Terrains.

General and Continental casings are crap so you get what you pay for.
I would recommend the Michelin Cross Terrain for your situation.
 
Interesting. I had the Cross Contact LX on my 06 Runner, 40,000 miles before I traded it in, and they were great. Very quiet, excellent in rain, and after 40,000 miles they still had more than half the tread left.

I always trust Tire Rack and their surveys and testing. Currently they too tout the General Grabber HTS and nearly all the reviews are great. It is hard to pull the trigger on a tire that is SO MUCH cheaper than the others.

Check their site out.
 
i vote for Michelin X-Terrain, i have stock came factory in my Limited. they are great tires for regular daily use, very quiet on freeway. they also perform decent on a mild, not too muddy off road terrain.
 
I had the stock Bridgestone Dueler 840s when I bought new - they did fine but were bald by 40k. Replaced with Michelin CTs and haven't looked back (26k). Expensive tire (in initial cost terms), no doubt, but so far worth it. I timed it right at my dealership and got a Buy 3 get the 4th free deal, so it was a bit less painful. Safety and tread life should be priority #1 and 2 in my mind, then tire price - at least when shopping for an SUV highway tire that wont see snow, ice or mud. Just my .02
 
I have a set of Michelin Cross Terrain tires on my 2008 and they are quiet and very comfortable. Very nice tires! I'd recommend those tires for your application.
 
Dang yall wasn't kidding when you said they was a lil higher. $262 a piece on Tirerack. I think i'll hold off on them. Has anyone had any dealing with Avon Tyres?
