Best T4R model for towing

I also have a Mastercraft 205V and towed it once with my 4Runner and won't do it again. While it definitely towed the boat it certainly didn't feel comfortable. Passing acceleration was limited and braking felt a little edgy/pushy even with surge brakes on the trailer. Not saying it was unsafe, just thought it was pushing the limits of the 4Runner and my comfort level.

Agree, 5th gen is absolutely not an ideal tow rig for something like that. If you are buying it to tow heavy loads... Do yourself a huge favor and consider a full size truck.

Also, the 2wd is technically better for towing. Not by much, but dropping a few hundred pounds helps more than you would think.

Would you mind posting some close up pics of it? And real close up of the wheels & tires. I'm a bit of a mall crawler, not going to lie. I'm getting ready to install my Billy 5100's and I already put AT's on it at like 600 miles. Thinking about swapping out my Trail wheels for those wheels.

I tow a race car and trailer which has a combined weight of 3500lbs. The trailer has electric brakes and the 4Runner does fine. Don't expect to tow at 80mph and you will be fine. I also added air lift bags to the rear suspension but only need to have 10psi or so in them.

Tundra is great but for limited budget Tacoma is best and sustainable.

2012 Limited here, zero issues towing a 22” sailboat or 18” speedboat or 19” wakeboard boat. Wakeboat fully loaded with gas is around the 3500-4000 lbs mark. Lots of hills in southern Missouri northern Arkansas, pulls smooth. I do not have surge brakes on any of the trailers.

I've got a 2016 Limited 4x4 and I regularly pull 3 trailers with it, a Highwall popup, a small sailboat, and a utility trailer. The popup is by far the largest and can weigh up to 3800 pounds. We've towed it from Huntsville to the Outer Banks, Disney World, and other places without any issues. I thought about adding airbags, but so far have decided to keep the 4Runner stock.
