Best tire size

Hey
I'm new to owning a 4runner. I wanted to bring up for discussion on best tire size overall (but mainly for winter traction in the north)

Is a wider tire 32X11.5 better or a skinnier (taller) tire say 235X75. I don't think the exact tire size is critical. But the idea is it better with the lighter 4runner to use wide tires to stay on top or skinny ones to dig down (remember thinking snow)

Hoping for suggestions from people with experience using both

I've heard most folks say that the taller skinnier tires work better in the snow and the wider tires are better for the mud/dirt/ wheeling situation..

Seems to be a lot of info out there, and then people seem to get side tracked with brands....

Contact area is the same per vehicle regardless of size width.
Area X PSI X 4 = vehicle weight
just a footnote the tread pattern could have an affect. Also sidewall stiffness might have an influence.

I think I'm leaning to a taller skinnier tire (dealing with snow). Mainly my thought is the front of the tire will cut through snow,slush and prevent build and hydroplaning (lift),loss of contact with surface. Of course compound and tread pattern makes a difference.

I also wanted to note my concern is control and braking. It seems in my area that there a more 4WD in the ditch than cars. They are great in the go go go area but fail in the stop and control

that may be cause alot of people dont think they still need to slow down in bad weather or snow since they have 4wd. imo,if you are worried, what ever size you go with, get a winter tire. Winter Tech - Winter Tire FAQs
