Best Unit

Looking for the best OEM unit that will go in a 99 4runner limited. I know some models are JBL, etc and am just looking for the best one to install.

This is what I have currently,
TOYOTA radio CD Camry XLE 4Runner Limited 96 97 98 99 : eBay Motors (item 120516344960 end time Jan-20-10 12:44:02 PST)

Is that the best?

Can anyone tell by the radio I have if I have an amplifier already? The stereo system is the "premium system".

Would something like this work?
toyota camry tundra sienna 4 runner 6 disc cd radio oem : eBay Motors (item 250551530034 end time Jan-19-10 08:55:28 PST)

Thanks

so what did you get?

Not sure why you are so fond of an OEM unit.

Personally I have heard the amps are carryovers from the 2nd gen Runners. You get better and cleaner sound with a quality aftermarket head unit in my opinion.

I run a cheapo Sony unit that had excellent Cd signal to noise specs and that is why I picked it. Plus an auxillary input that would work great for an external speaker jack for my CB or Ipod or MP3 player. Versatility is what I was going for not an OEM look.

Just my opinion. What did you get sir?

as long as oem was of good quality, id rather go with oem for the simple reason that its less likely to be stolen. i used to spend thousands on good car stereos, and its really nice to not have to worry about taking the faceplate off every time you park or someone breaking into your trunk while youre gone. my buddy has a lincoln aviator, one really nice thing about it is that theres a stylish plate that slides down over the stereo so its not visible at all.

good point

yes that is a good reason to stick with OEM but if sound quality is important to your ears then at a minimum you would be upgrading the speakers anyways...

not quibbling with you-I have had 2 stolen in my 32 years of driving so yes that is not a good feeling coming out to your vehicle and having a gaping hole in the dash.

You'll need to check the wiring schematics that they are the same. IIRC, the SNS has been installed in a 4th or two and works with the non-JBL setup. If a 4th gen radio works in a 3rd, then I don't see a reason why the SNS wouldn't.
