Best way to do a kill switch?

All we're doing is deter theft, so anything to urge them to move on to another vehicle* is good.

It's been 13 years since I had my prelude stolen, and it was found a month later just missing the stereo & speakers, trunk contents, and ignition lock. I do remember at the time feeling that I would be happy to find it totaled, including driver.

I had my factory cat stolen off the 4runner. It was easy to get under, and only held on with 4 bolts. Tough to protect against everything.

These days, we're in the mountains, and most leave there cars unlocked. It's a bad habit, but I figure if the neighbor leaves his 40k tundra unlocked, I can leave my 4k 4runner unlocked. I lock it up when in town, but even with it clean inside I'd rather a bear open the door than peel it open....and they do occasionally open the door.

Dealing with a kill switch daily seems to me like a pain, but I suppose if you use it daily and hide it well but in an easy place to get to, it's fine. I think the 2-3 alarms I've removed have just hidden switches in the vast darkness under the dash. But there's probably plenty of other places to hide or blend it in, like that little ash/trash tray behind the center console. Ahhh, fun times, almost as much as thinking about adding hidden doors and compartments to a house.

Cheap GPS Tracker

I have been researching theft protection for my sons 4runner and ran across this GPS tracker. It is suspiciously cheap but I have read some good reviews on it. Can be set up to break a circuit on activation (fuel/ignition) as well as real time GPS tracking. It does require a SIM card and a small subscription fee. See the "frequently bought together" at the bottom of the description.

Read the amazon review for some cheap alternatives to the standard subscription/data fees.

Too many relays. Why not just interrupt signal to starter relay or to starter solenoid with a switch rated for 30 amps?

I originally joined this forum just to get some insight to kill switches on 4runners. I have a 2000 4Runner manual with just over 100K on it and currently everything looks and works like a peach. I don't know why Toyota stopped producing manual 4runners in 2000?... I love the gear box. The kelly blue book value is crazy low for my 4runner (- I paid way over blue book to get a low mileage manual about 6 years ago as they are rarer than hens teeth) and insurance will only pay 70% of blue book if stolen and not recovered. Anyway I did a fuel pump kill switch in a place that even surprised a guy who installs them for a living (that at least is a good sign). Where I am parked at night I should potentially hear the motor trying to start (if someone breaks in) and the police are just around the corner (mostly 24/7) so any potential thieves would probably get nicked if they hung around. However I really don't want to loose my 4runner so I am thinking of doing another independent kill switch - I need to operate the car quickly so taking out relays etc would be too cumbersome on a regular basis for me... maybe wiring to the horn or existing alarm? I don't think my car is desirable enough to serious car thieves to nick so I have avoided lojack. I would like to put a gobi rack hella lights a winch etc.. on it but I haven't bothered as I think it would just attract thieves.... Obviously it can be towed but you would think who would bother with a 2000 4runner?
