Best way to remove extra rubber on rear mudguards?

I've seen a few photos of 4Runner's without the extra rubber flap on the mudguards. Is this how they came or was it removed? Here's a pic for reference:

and here is what mine look like presently:

I like the look without the extra rubber flap hanging down. Is there an easy to go about removing it?

People cut it off. I think my buddy used a box cutter on his

Yellow tin snips worked good for me. Just cut it off a week or so ago. Kinda wish I would have left it TBH. Looks nice when you hit it with trim shine or tire shine.

i been debating on weather to cut them off or leave them ........

Utility knife works well for cutting them off.

I used this method also. I left about an inch of rubber on there to be a little different. I used some 200 grit sand paper to smooth the edges after I cut them.

Last weekend I was backing up through deep hard snow and the rubber was getting caught and grabbing the mud guards. I was thinking it would be good to cut them off.

Boxcutter. Lol. I scored a line in the rubber then ripped it off and cleaned up the uneven parts, then sanded it.

Why didn't I think of that? Lol. I even have a torch.
