Best way to use touch up paint????

It finally happened. 5000 miles in i got my first nick from a falling branch or pine cone or something. It was pretty deep and nasty so I bought some touch up paint. I still have to find some clear coat but thats besides the point.

I cleaned the area and applied the paint but of course it doesnt match perfectly. Has anyone applied the paint or has a good technique to applying it. I need to lightly sand down where i touched up because its not smooth. If anyone can help please let me know.

I'd apply as little paint as possible at one time - just enough to cover the spot. Just dab the paint on - don't actually use the brush like a paint brush. If you need to fill it to account for depth, apply several coats.

Over the years I have found that using a wooden tooth pick with a good point on it works best for small areas.
Gives a LOT more control over how much paint is used and where it goes.

or use the end of a match trimmed to a point with a pair of scissors. sand carefully with 1500 and buff. it will never be perfect but you'll take the curse off.

Scratch magic application after tooth pick method. It softens the touchup paint and allows you to buff the repair smooth.
