BEWARE: Geico Claims

I would second that. . . .get out of Caliweird and realize how much better the rest of the country is ahah:party:

There is nothing weird about CA. Majority of people here are as open, normal, and well cultured in the bay area. I have been to other parts of the country even in the boondocks of CA. People are a bit off. Rednecks/hicks, racist, you name it.. No offense to anyone here. I can care less about anyones views against me. I just want to live comfortable and peacefully. You can do anything you want within a couple hours reach in the bay area. But that is what causes the ridiculous cost of living. The outside real estate investors bumping up home prices dont help either. Its not unusual to have 3 families living in one 4 bedroom home. They all put money in to buy together. There is also a large disparity between the rich and the poor here, and it keeps getting worse. Just a thought for anyone considering moving here. I hope 8 months from now to be posting nice trail pictures of the 4runner. I can start a whole discussion about this rant, but I know this is a t4r forum. I thought about moving a long time. I am going to do it to give my family a better quality of life. I'm sick of being stuck in traffic for 2 hours a day going to work only 20 miles away. I know I will make half of what I make here for a living but my research shows I can live better with lower pay in another state.

If your estimate was for $535 why would you even call your insurance company if your deductible is $500?

Its not even worth the hassle IMO.

I thought it would have been over 1k in repair. It would be if oem parts was used. Ill have them cancel the claim and pay out of pocket.

Total BS, I just had the same rear corner window replaced with an OEM replacement part, they even replaced my sub enclosure with a brand new OEM assembly, and I added that myself, my SR5 didn't even come with one stock. Sounds like a shady deal to me

This is what I meant earlier. They will payout oem to another party if I was at fault. But me filing a claim for myself I get screwed. It shouldn't make any difference.. My truck don't deserve oem quality parts, but another persons claim would?

Insurance companies, the Comcast of the car business. I got hit in my accord wagone many years ago and the old battleaxe had allstate. The refused to pay for a honda hood and fender. I told the shop that I wasn't happy, but understood. I also told them to understand that if it didn't fit like honda body panels I would not accept it. When it was done I went to pick it up and the gap on the side of the hood they replaced the fender on didn't line up well at all. I told the shop that I would not accept that. He said he thought I would say that and he went to stat farm and told them that I would not accept the repair because of the fit. For some reason they were not happy and asked the shop why they didn't test fit it before they painted it. Of course the shop didn't do that because state farm would never pay to fit panels then take them off to paint them and put them on. In the end they had to order a new honda hood and I had the rental car two additional weeks.

Dealing with GEICO myself right now because some idiot rear ended me. My insurance wants to do all the work for me, and they're trying to low ball me. Thinking about switching to USAA I've heard nothing but good things about them.

My wife and I are on USAA. Nothing but positive things to say about them. My wife was in an accident a year ago and USAA took care of everything and all the adjusters had great attitudes and were extremely helpful.

I just got rear ended a month ago and had another good experience with USAA. We run almost everything through them. Banking, Insurance. . .

Yeah I pretty much do all my banking through them too, just never got around to moving my insurance over. That's going to change once I get this mess figured out.

I was hoping that the estimate would be higher so I can maybe not repair the bumper for now, since money is somewhat tight.

To bad it didn't work out. Nobody likes insurance until they get totaled and sometimes not even then. Using junkyard parts is not uncommon.

Just claim it to the person who rear ended you and bring it to the body shop to handle it.

In working with insurance companies on a daily basis USAA is the best when it comes to auto accidents. Prompt service, rental waiting, quick to get an estimate up and running for you and your car back on the road.
My confusion is why Geico is doing it? It should be going through the other individuals insurance who you thus not effecting YOUR ins. plan?

It's surprising how many people don't know what a deductible is. I just had to educate a person in my office. They thought they had a great deal on insurance, with his $1500 deductible until he caved in his driver side door sliding sideways down a hill into a boulder. Needless to say, he is $1,100 out of pocket and still has $400 left to cover on this year's deductible if anything else happens.. LOL. As I explained it to him, he just kept arguing with me. He has accepted it, but I still don't think the poor sap understands.

When I went to the ER they wouldn't let me use my own medical insurance because it was a car accident, they forced me to use my vehicle insurance. Which really pisses me off, but it's all a part of the game these insurance companies play with each other. So now GEICO is alerted that I was in an accident and they automatically send out an adjuster to come look and survey the damage. I think their logic is they'll wrap the vehicle damage and medical insurance claim all into one package, go after the other guy's insurance, and pocket the money because eventually my medical insurance will pick up the cost of the doctor's bills because I have full coverage.

Yep its how the game works for them. They recently pass a law that illegal immigrant can get drivers license now. Given they provide proof of insurance. You ever ask who really push that law to pass????

I got into a couple accident years ago. Not my fault and had to chase down the hit and run while on the phone with 911. Turns out the guy was an illegal and didnt have insurance. Now they can drive around guilt free given they pay insurance. Some of them struggle to put food on the table for their families but its ok as long as they pay that damn premium every month. Its a shitty situation for everyone.

Well, there's a lot of bad things I can say about New Jersey but they do have a requirement that the first time you get car insurance here you pay about 300 or so up front into a uninsured driver fund, that way you don't get totally hosed.

For those of you that hate all insurance companies, here's something that is not common knowledge.

The average insurance company pays out $.97 to $1.02 in claims for every $1.00 that they charge you in premiums. It is among one of the lowest profit margins of any industry in the US. Some companies spend a lot of your money on marketing like Flo the annoying sales lady or that Gecko that makes everybody smile, but most insurance companies choose to spend very little on marketing because the profit margins are so tight.

Ultimately, they rely on a good group of finance guys to invest your premiums between the time when they are collected and the time when claims are paid. Almost all profit that an insurance company makes is due to smart investing of premium dollars.

The reason that the premiums have gone up over the last few years is because there were few safe investments to be made during the recession. Also, our society is way too litigious. If you're going to blame anybody for high premiums and insurance companies acting conservatively, blame the lazy society that sues anybody they can hoping to earn a profit, the judicial system that awards outrageous settlements to people file frivolous lawsuits, or the ambulance chasing lawyers.

I'm a bigger conspiracy theorist than most, but your hatred for all insurance companies is misguided. If you doubt anything that I said above, do some research on the loss ratios (more accurately the combined loss ratios) for any of the major insurance companies and you'll see that I'm not blowing smoke.

Except loss ratios is a huge part of lessening your tax burden. The higher a business's losses, the more they can write off on end of quarter taxes and lower the overall owed amount to the IRS at end of fiscal year. As long as the adjusted income/earnings figures to their investors, stock holders and owners meet the C or S corp pre-tax requirements (which they always do), those individuals still make bank, the company's health is stable and growing and better yet, taxable profit is lessened by the loss's written off. Win win for everyone!

Fortunately, our congressional leadership has ensured legally that insurance companies cannot operate over state lines. Sure, there's a Gieco coverage in CA and in WI, but they are separate per the law. Cute part is, that ensures that smaller companies trying to get enough contributing customers to become a viable business in said insurance industry, are choked out by large nationwide providers with plenty of money to start up a local (per state) office. Fun how our laws work huh?

This btw applies to ALL insurance. Wonder why our ACAct keeps going up... hmmm?

Oh, to get back on subject... Gieco didn't screw you, you screwed you. Understanding the legal parts of contracts is something a majority of people don't do. Just now, you probably clicked the "Accept" on updating your iTunes, I guarantee you didn't read the part where you give Apple exclusive use of your user data which allows them to sell all info they collect on you to "third party partners" at around $.08 a packet. Before you sign, get a buddy attorney to look it over and explain what the hidden crap/important stuff is. Better yet, call your congressmen and demand they make an "idiots guide to legal stuff" law (like they already have funny enough) that requires PRIVATE sector contracts to have bullet points and be written in crayon.

Off that band wagon and onto another, OEM and "LKQ" (Like Kind Quality) is for all intents and purposes the same thing to the insurance industry. I've paid off my Acura and then some in insurance claims so I've marched around this topic lots. Funny enough, most LKQ parts (the used stuff, not like "LKQ" the company) in my humble opinion are just as good as the OEM stuff. You are under no requirement to accept the insurance's terms. Take it to whomever you'd like and get a second, third, fourth opinion. Sit there and argue with the claims guy and back it up with the quotes you got from the other places. It’s going to be a headache, but in the end you will make out with a larger check to take to your buddy to have work done.

Good luck and make poor choices!

You're forgetting the insurance company executives, who are making money hand over fist marketing unnecessary insurance to gullible fools that cannot math.

Not just executives but the salesman as well. Anyone I know in insurance makes bank, to the tune of what they in taxes is my yearly salary, as a mech eng.

There's blame to go around everywhere. But when I'm required by law to sign these legal documents that don't protect me in the manner I wish what other choice is there.

I'm shocked.. Insurance companies are actually trying to make money? Those greedy bastards. They should be attempting to lose as much money as possible.

News flash... all companies try to make money. Where's all the anger directed towards auto makers, farmers, movie studios, restaurants, etc? I guarantee they make much more money off of you in any given year than your insurance company.

Take off your tin foil hat. Not everyone is out to get you.
