BEWARE: Rough Country Lift Brackets

After wheeling at Eagle Rock last time I have been keeping a close eye on my bent front lift brackets. I have put maybe 100 miles on the 4runner since I bent them and they're starting to crack at the welds. This is a simple failure in the manufacturers ability to produce a good weld. Poor penetration!

I figured I would throw this up so others with this front end lift bracket can use it as a warning and keep an eye on their lift. In all fairness, when I go wheeling I'm not exactly nice to my 4runner.

I still believe that these are great lift kits, but everything has their limits. I abuse this 4runner every time I wheel it and I have yet to break anything. I think that this failure was me trying to haul butt over an obstacle with limited traction and a rock decided it was going to smack the heck out of these brackets. This lift is intended for mild trail runs and some of the trails I run here aren't quite mild.

I'd have to disagree with you on this conclusion--regardless of how hard you use it, the welds shouldn't fail like that. A good weld should be stronger than the surrounding metal. Bolts, links, springs--those I can see failing under stress, but not welds.

I agree completely! As I said in my original post, it is a failure in the weld produced by the manufacturer. I was only saying that these lift kits are still good lifts for an IFS vehicle, but they weren't designed for the wheeling that I have done with it. They are designed for light trail use or a mall crawler.

I don't plan on doing anything about it. I was just posting these pics here for everyone else's information that uses the same lift. I have a guy who wants to buy my 4runner coming over Wednesday. I'm not a stickler on the price so if he offers a reasonable price then I'll let him have it.
