Sorry I got to into your great photos I missed that. Thanks for the info. However you did raise another issue that l have some trouble following. Blair you talka bout now having a lesser ride going from a D tire to your current E tire.

I understood that the higher letter rating was necessary for heavier trucks. I'm assuming that is because the sidewall is thicker to support the extra weight, and consequently the resulting ride will be harsher?

Basically you got it, also these tires are generally strong off road than the lower C rated tires I used to use. It is mainly to support extra weight though, and E rating is somewhat overkill for our trucks.

dude they look sick! I'm glad I decided not to go with those tires cuz I would have had major rubbing issues. I stayed with the destination a/t 275/70/17 and they rub pretty bad. Glad you like them!

Yeah, it seems 285's are the standard for our trucks, but I think these tires are a great alternative. The FJ wheels were one of the best mods I have done on my truck, I highly recommend getting a pair. Even unpainted, they look a lot better than the factory 4Runner wheel in my opinion.

Well I got around to taking some pics of my new tires that I put on last week. I went from BFG 255/75/17 MT KM's to BFG 255/80/17 MT KM2's. It was basically going from a 32x10" tire to a 33.5x10" tire. I think the exact rating from BFG is 32.1 for the 75's and 33.4 for the 80's

No it is a full factory replacement. The mule and megamule keep your factory roof rack and just bolt to this. With mine, you remove the factory roof rack and bolt this to where the factory rack use to be.

I am sure the E rating will be a bit firmer but the sidewalls also have improved with the TEK system from the Crawler adding a 33% increase in strength then the KM in general so that might add to the firmer ride and extra protection on the trail.Your Rig looks really good now let us all know how they do on the trail compared to the KM's.:hungry:

Just to check back after I have wheeled these some. They seem to be doing great thus far, great grip, air down well, cant complain. The one issue is their size. When I stuff the rear tires, they rub BAD. I can actually look in my mirror and watch the bumper push out/move as each lug of the tire goes by. Time to do some more trimming.

Looks like these are a little taller as mentioned earlier in the thread then the wider 285/70R17. I guess some rear bumper trimming will take care of the rub. To confirm you are still having the rub under full compression in the rear with a 1.5 inch Body Lift? I wonder if you had longer bump stops in the rear if that would fix it as well? Like the tires and these will be my MT of choice for sure but in a 265/70R17 or if i get some funds for the lift i want 285/70R17.

Yeah still rubbing bad with the 1.5" BL. I am going to try to extend the bumpstops, which should solve the problem.

And yes, these are taller than 285/70/17 by about 0.5".

I actually took off my wheel spacers today to see how that changed the rubbing and although I am no longer rubbing the body mount (at least I havn't yet) I am now rubbing the frame when I fully crank the wheel.

It rubs less in the rear when I do not have spidertrax. It was rubbing with the fox shocks, not sure about 5100's since I have not really flexed the rear out under that setup.

I still love the setup. I have a little under 15,000 miles on it and am really enjoying it. You get some interesting rubbing though, depending on your exact setup. If I run wheel spacers you rub your pinch weld on the inner fender and also your body mount (easy fix, just chop the body mount and hammer our the pinch weld) and if you run it without wheel spacers I rub my frame slightly (I just do not crank the wheel the entire way, or you can put steering stops on). These tires are great off road, although unless you have quite a bit of lift they would be a pain to deal with.

I just mounted up some 255 80 17 KM2's on refinished FJ Steelies on my 2004 4Runner this morning. Very pleased so far but have not had it on the trails yet.
