I previously would not have thought twice about buying a tire at Costco, but I had an issue. They guy at the shop had problems getting one balanced. He ordered a replacement and it had the same problem. He checked the rim but didn't find any issues. During one of the many shop visits to fix the issue he made the comment, "We have had a lot of problems with these, they are almost as bad as a club tire". When I asked what that meant, he told me that if they have a bad batch of tires they were sent to places like Costco.

With those issues and a few others, I no use that shop. I do wonder if what he said is true.

I can assure you that if a "club" tire exists, it would be identified if it was a lesser quality tire (usually with a branding on the sidewall). If you see no branding, then the tire is a quality tire no different than any other tire from any other vendor.

When I swap out the stock tires, should I swap out the spare too?

On the one hand, I hate to spend money on a tire that might not get used before it has to be replaced strictly due to age. On the other hand, if I'm on an off-road/overland trip in the middle of nowhere and have to use the spare, I'd like it to match the rest of the tires on the vehicle.

What are your thoughts on this?

It really depends on if you're changing tire sizes...

If you're changing tire sizes delete the spare, buy a matching 5th wheel, mount 5 tires and put the 5th tire in the rotation.

If you're only planning on using the spare as a spare and aren't changing tire sizes, then check the spare every year and change it when you see deterioration or at the 10 year point.

Picked up my Trail Edition on Friday and wanted to get some off-road worthy tires on there asap. Had a set of BFG's installed yesterday. Looks much better. Price was $920 installed, but the shop gave me $400 for the Grandtreks and BFG has a $50 rebate going on right now, so the net cost was only $470. Went with the 265's in a C rated tire. Don't have an opinion of them yet since my only drive time was home from the shop, but I hope they end up working well.

Tucker Tire in Laguna Niguel. Good guys, I've been buying tires there for years. Great customer service and good prices. Brad was the one that gave me the $400 credit if you want to ask for him. I was actually surprised that the offer was that high. You have to do it right away though, mine only had 185 miles on them when I got there.

I also went with BFG's in stock size (265) and C load, they've done great off road and provided great comfort. I've had them for a few thousand miles and the ride is SUPER close to stock. Barely noticeable difference from the Grandtrek's.

I just purchased 4 new BFG AT KO2 at Sears today, it was buy 3 get 1 free. Anyhow, the whole ride home the steering wheel was shaking. I called Sears and they said that basically that is the nature of these type of tires and that they were completely balanced in the shop.

Am I wrong? Should the wheel be jiggling? I haven't even taken it on the highway, mostly drove between 40 - 60 mph.

Advice? Will Sears take them back and give me something else, or is this just an improperly balanced tires.

What size/load range did you get?
Mine came out perfectly balanced and the steering definitely doesn't vibrate.

Have you checked the tire pressure? I just had mine installed last week and the ride was rough. I decided to check my tire pressure and it was waaay over inflated. Feels much better now after fixing it.

You are not wrong, you wheels should not be shaky. I have no shake at highway speeds inflated to 46psi. Higher psi tires will provide a harsher ride, but not a shaky ride. Sounds like they did not properly balance your tires and they may need to be road force balanced. It is also possible that one of your tires is just out of spec and needs to be swapped.

Definitely don't accept the answer that it's normal though.

Tried to getting these tires installed at Costco... they refused because they are not stock specs. I'm trying to install 275/55/20 on aftermarket rims. Limited rims were 245/60/20.

I tried to order from Discount Tire online and they would not sell 275/55/20 for the 20x7" rim. Confirmed with local DT store and they would not sell or install them for the LE rim. They would however sell and install the 265/60/20 which I did not buy because I thought they would rub.
