Hello new to the off road modification world and just bought a 5th Gen Trail Premium. I have already put the TRD Pro wheels on my 4Runner but would like to put more aggressive tires on it. I went to Tirerack and tried to order the BFG AT KO2 tires since they got good reviews but when I went to check out there was a warning from tire rack that said the BFG AT KO2 were load rated higher than my 4runner and could result in harsher ride quality. Is this true? I really like the way the 4 runner rides now with the factory tires I just wanted more aggressive look and puncture resistance for off road. I know several members have bought this tire combo. Does the BFG make the ride harsher? how is the on road handling affected.

I have had mine now for a couple of months and in short, yes the ride is a little stiffer and can be harsh at times compared to the stock tires. The factory tires are pretty soft and are a much lower load rating the the KO2s. The KO2s are an E rated tire which a much stiffer sidewall. If you are going for comfort, the KO2s might not be the best. Also, I am having a very hard time getting one tire to balance. I have been in 3 times in the past 2 months in an attempt to get them to balance right. One tire was replaced under warranty after 2 weeks as the tire tech told me, "it might as well have been a square tire" that's how bad it was. I will ride with them for a while and see how it goes, but would probably get something different if I had not gotten such a damn good deal on them. Just my 2 cents. If you get the 265/70/17 KO2 in load range c it will not be as harsh as the 275/70/17 load range e tire mentioned above but will still be a little harsher than stock tires.

I have them in the 265's and love them. Balanced with no problems and ride and handle great. Had them for a couple months or so.

I have 275's on the TRD wheels, I really like the ride, at the same time I had a Toytec lift put on, so that changed everything, but the tires are awesome. I am running the E loads at 45psi, so Yes at 70+ I would imagine it would be very stiff.
Also ended up in really bad mud at the overland Expo and these tires got me out with little issue. and they cleaned themselves out really fast. they are great tires.

How can you tell if the Tires are C rated vs E rated? Also I cannot find the black lettering side walls on Tire rack is that a special order item most sell them with white lettering.

Here is a little link I found without much effort. Just compare the part # with the tirerack part #
It will give you the tire part # and list its load range rating for tire sizes.
Not all tire sizes come in "C" LR, but your stock tire size does.

I've been watching many different threads here about the KO2's and they seem to be the bee's knees. Since I'm likely running another 5k+ miles before summer is over, I'm going to wait until fall to pick up a set for mine.
I've already decided I want the 275's even though they're E load. I've always liked a slightly wider tire for a bigger contact area and better grip. Of course that comes with trade off in higher hydroplaning risk. Anyone with 275's encountered this or are these things well channeled enough to prevent that?

not sur eif you are aware how much rain we are getting here in Florida but I have driven the past week in torrential downpours... the KO2s have performed flawless
I have 275s on TRD wheels. Honestly, I do wish it was just a hair less harsh, so I'm contemplating getting the 265s next time. That said, it's still quite comfortable and quiet, handles better than stock, and the looks, man. 
No complaints from the significant other too, and she loved how the ride felt stock, so that should give you an idea. By the time I have to buy tires again, I'll probably be so used to the ride I'll just get the 275s again haha. It's a little stiff, but not bad at all.
Only been on a few trails, but the tires were very confidence inspiring. Hard to tell if it was the truck or the tires or both cause I'm new to this stuff, but I went up and over stuff that I thought I would be slipping and sliding on with very little drama.

Have you tried airing them down a little for on road use?
Lol, yeah the saga has been chronicled in the main KO2 thread over several weeks. I started at 40, then 45, then 35, then 40, then 52 accidentally, then back to 45, which I'm happy with now. Also I have bilstein 5100s and daystar spacers in the rear, and that has had more of an impact on ride harshness than the tires I think.
Honestly I'm happy with the ride. Four out of 5 stars for personal comfort if I had to rate it, but taking into account performance and looks I'm very satisfied overall. The slight extra harshness is a perfectly acceptable trade off for me, and like I said, the better half hasn't complained once, and believe me if there is something to complain about she'll find it!

Hey guys I have the 265 c ko2 they ride about the same as my 20 s did . thinking about exchanging them and going up to the 275 ko2 ,any thoughts are they gonna be noticiably stiffer than the 265 ko2 ? Which I run at 40 psi . Do they really look that much bigger ? Than the 265s
