BFG AT KO's VS. Bridgestone Dueler AT "REVO"

Of the two you're looking at, hands down go with the BFG AT KO's. As Doodz has mentioned, easy on the street and great off road.

I've had the BFGs before on a Tacoma, but had an issue with what they wanted for them-$185!!! I mentioned this to the salesman at Discount Tire and he mentioned the Nitto Terra Grapplers. The only thing they lack compared to the BFGs is they are only 2 ply on the sidewall and $140 retail. After trade in on the Dunlaps with only a few thousand on them and a sale, I paid $90 per tire out the door.

I try and get out wheeling every weekend and encounter sand, mud, snow, rock and scree here in CO. I've been amazed with them since day one. Nittos or BFGs, you can't go wrong...

Doodz, pity you are in CO, otherwise we could go wheel together and provide objective feedback ona side by side comparison. Trying to do it over the net, just doesnt work

I really did come close to trying the Revos this time. I think they're both good.

Ha...looks like i am a rare breed...i have owned both REVOS and BFG AT KO. (Along with Bridgestone Dueler H/L, Michelin LTX M/S, and Michelin LTX AT)...and yes, all on ONE car!

A few points:

1. The "rim protector" is useless in my opinion. It MAY help with light curb damage. These protectors just bend or break off when they encounter something nasty (sharp rocks). So, for me, these rim protectors are more for looks than it is practical.

2. REVOs are good for on-road, and they wear well. Traction remains intact throughout the life of the tire due to dual thread compound.

3. BFG AT KO is a stronger tire, but as it wears, the road noise increases. And this is just not my opinion...it is shared by many. In addition, you lose wet traction as the BFG wears. IMO, if you're looking for a good treadwear tire that maintains good traction over time, REVOs is a better choice. BFG may last a bit longer, but do they provide as good traction in the latter half of it's life as the REVOs?? I doubt it.

4. As stated above, BFG AT KO is better for off-roading owners and in snow. BFG AT KO has thicker sidewall and more tread plies (due to LT rating). However, as stated by Doodz above, none of the AT tires are good in mud. If BFG is better, then it is very insignificant. REVOs have wider tread blocks in the center, while BFG ATs have wider blocks at the edge...so, you make the call.

5. As stated in previous threads on this topic, BFG AT KO tires are heavier (due to HD construction), will lower your fuel economy, poorer handling (increase unsprung weight), poorer braking distance (due to weight).

6. As for initial noise level (when you first bought it), i felt that the BFG was a bit quieter than the REVOs.

In the end, i chose BFG AT KO for similar reasons to Doodz. Your choice will depend on your priorities. REVOs are far from perfect, and so is BFG AT KO.

Yeah I air them down, pending on terrian adn what I want to do. I normally go 20-25 on rocks and stuff to make the ride softer and provide extra grip. Sand an soft stuff like 12 psi. Mud normally only 20 psi.

I can probably go a bit softer, but I'm still too close to the ground. Need more lift........more lift.......

Well, it's a close race between the two AT tires. That's a good thing because this means that you cannot go wrong with either one. They don't last forever...so if you don't like one, just wait 40,000 miles and change to the other one.

damn i wish i took pics tonight but i actually just bought the BFG AT's after contemplating between them and the Revos. like thai said if this many people all reccomend one or the other, then they are both awesome tires. i havent had a chance to take them off road yet, but i will this weekend. so far ive noticed: longer braking distances, slower acceleration, and more noise. however to me it also feels sturdier, rides better over bumps, and actually rides smooth for what i thought it would do. but all these things are compared to the old dunlops i had on there, so in no way is it an even comparison. but i really love them so far! oh and also, if you have a Costco where you live, id suggest getting them there. i got them for 160/tire with warranty, balancing, and the works.

What size did you get? I got a quote for $179/tire for 265/70-17 installed.

I thought you said you ran your Revos aired down but couldn't remember. It helps me to know you run them that way off road and like them. Cool. I may still try a pair if these ever wear out. Thanks!

I agree, on my V6 3rd GEN I did notice slower acceleration due to the larger tire. The 3rd GEN V6 is a good engine but a little on the underpowered side compared to the 03 and up engines. Was great in 4LO though.

But on my 2003 V8, I did "not" notice any change in braking distance or acceleration. They do absorb road shock better than the smaller, lighter Dunlops.

You bring up a good point for anyone wanting to move to a larger than spec tire. Your brakes were designed with the recommended tire size in mind. Going to something much larger may affect braking distance. That said, the 03 and up Sport models have larger brake calipers and handle one size up with no problem. That's another reason I did not want to go bigger than 265/70R17 from the stock 265/65R17.

I've also been looking around at Toyo and others. Toyo has served the trucking industry for a long time and are becoming better known all the time. I keep listening for new stuff breaking in the market.

Toyo has LT tires.

Their website lists LT 265/70/17. I am really tempted to get a set of those as my next set. Prices for Revo, BFG KO, and Toyo Open Country are all close ---HIGH! But I am very happy with the Toyo Load Range D on my Tahoe. Very tight and firm on the road. Good traction in rain and snow. I dunno if they will last as long as the BFG I had on the Tahoe. Those went 85,000 miles-could have had another 8-10k more miles but it was getting into wet season so better safe than sorry.

I also recommend the Pirelli Scorpions A/T. Liked them so much I went through two sets on the Tahoe.

my local costco quoted me 153 per tire installed... Im tempted but I think I will wear on the crappy dulops for a few more miles... I almost hate to throw away tires that arent worn out, even if they are the dunlops

My local Costco quoted me $149/tire for Revos and $179/tire for AT KOs installed the same size (265/70-17).

I'm with you on (ab)using the Dunlops a bit more. I have about 4300 miles now. I'll probably change at 10k miles or if I sell my race wheels.

I drove my AT 20's until 23K and they started hydroplaning pretty bad so I dumped them. I know how you feel about tossing tires with tread left.

yeah i have about 19k on em now, I have a pretty big commute, so I will just wear down the dunlops for a few more months.
