BFG AT KO's vs. Nitto's

So I have been planning on getting BFG AT KO's soon, but now I have been reading quite a few reviews talking about the BFG's wearing unevenly which can make your ride much less safe. I had originally wanted Nitto Terra Grapplers, and I am now leaning more towards those again.

On all of the sites that I checked, such as tire rack, I can't find any tire reviews with the BFG's and the Nitto's in the same chart, to see how they rate when compared AGAINST each other, only seperate reviews of each of them. Mostly how do they compare on normal driving, wet conditions and snow.

Would 265/70/17 Nitto's look just as beefy as 265/70/17 BFG AT KO's after I get my 2/1 lift installed?Thanks for any input.

No.

If you're concerned about it, then i would get the Nittos. I do find it strange that, all of a sudden, the BFG AT KO has uneven wear when it's the oldest AT tire among the current group of REVOs, Nittos, Toyos, Goodyears, etc..

Where are you seeing these "reports"?? Or are you referring to the previous thread on Toyos & BFG (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34393)?? If so, then i would ask the poster what links to support his statement(s), rather than create more rumors and yet another thread on basically the same tire.:p
 
I have had long winded comparisons between these two tires and have 10+ years with BFGs on Toyotas and for the price and performance of daily driving duties Nittos are simply better at dry pavement grip and in the wet their resistance to hydroplaning is big diff at highway speeds due to their better sorted out water evac channels. Turn in grip on snow is very good too.

BFGs might last longer than the Nittos (but not by much) but that's the sacrifice of dry grip;I'll still see about 50k out of my Nittos.

My Nittos cost me $200 less otu the door than a set of BFGs would have. For a DD Nittos are hard to beat but BFGs would be my 2nd choice since they do kick butt off road but the Nittos have performed well off road for me too.

I'd actually like to see an opinion of somebody that has gone through a set of BFGs and Nittos but I'm one of the few that gave Nittos a try after driving on BFGs for a while.
 
Yeah the $200+ less for Nitto's is another incentive for me too. I'm just trying to get everything figured out before I buy a set of either, because I want to make sure I like them and will keep them on for as long as possible.

Thai, I read that thread, but I had heard about it previously before, but i have no idea where. That thread was the 2nd or 3rd time I read that, so it made me start to think it may be true.

Are Nitto's significantly smaller than BFG's if they are both 265/70/17's, or is the difference minimal?
 
My 265/70-17 Nitto TGs look great with my lift. I've said it over and over, but it bears repeating, the Nitto is the best bang for the buck AT tire for a DD.

I've yet to have an issue in 25,000 miles and they rock in snow and ice and handle rain equally well. When you factor in the cost, they're hard to beat.

Yeah the $250-$300 difference would help a lot with getting the Nitto's over the BFG's. I think since most of my driving is city/highway I'm going to go with the Nitto's. They should be sufficient enough to fill the wheel well when my 2/1 lift gets here.
 
I have nitto 265 70 17 with just a level spacer on front and love them great tire and even better price. Discounttiredirect.com cheapest i could find

I would wait till after the lift because then you can go to the tire shop and try on different sizes to see which one looks the best. If you do the tires now, then install lift later, you may find that the tires are too small.

Well it might be a while before I get it installed. I e-mailed Jason about why the lift kit was taking so long to arrive, and he told me it hasn't even shipped yet. 24 days and it still hasn't left. So I'm pretty disappointed.
 
I've been driving with the 265/70R17 Nitto TG's for months with no lift and they're fine. No rubbing whatsoever. The installer at 4Wheel Parts liked the way they looked enough to say they should be the stock tire.

I recently had a slooowwww leak requiring about 5 psi over a week or two, usually lighting up the indicator on cold mornings. Turned out to be a nail in the tread. Discount Tire said it was too close to the sidewall and refused to repair it. That store didn't have any in stock so I took it to my local trusty mechanic who said "no problem with those beefy offroad tires". Three tries later I put the wheel in my truck and took it to a Discount Tire store across town that had several in stock. They offered certificates for all 4 tires for $100 which I turned down. This was the first tire in my life that couldn't be repaired and I choose to stay self insured. I can only wonder if a BFG with a nail in the same place could have been repaired.

The Nittos handle great, can't be heard over the stereo, and look good. I'm a big fan of BFG's as you can see from my signature and couldn't tell you what my next tires will be for an SUV or truck, but they'll definately be Nitto or BFG.
 
There is a hum at highway speeds but nothing that noticeable unless your truck is quiet but it doesn't overpower anything you need to hear like phones or just regular talking.
 
My step dad has BFG's on his truck, and recently went on a trip to Wyoming for skiing and to go into Yellowstone for a few days. He said the BFG's handled horribly in the snow, so I guess they aren't all that they are cracked up to be.

How many miles on his tires?? Did his truck tires get rotated on time??
