I have five 265/75/16s i'd sell for a fair price! lol...because I too, want to be a part of the 285 club.
Hope to be getting MTR's though
These are the closest thing you're gonna find that resembles that tire.
Mastercraft Courser M/T (made by Cooper tires)

I see the BFG KM1's on craigslist from time to time as race take-off's because of SoCal's desert/ baja racing scene, but more often than not they're in a 33x10.5x15

^ those have relatively few sizes available and were SUPER expensive. Last i looked they only had sizes in the 17" plus wheel range
These two tires do look awfully similar to the KM. I really like the BFG longevity and quality, do you have a comment on the quality of the above tires??

Even if you find a used set, tires are considered no good after being 6 years after manufacture.
Yeah, to make people think they need new ones so they spend money on stuff they don't really need. Yes, in poor conditions (on vehicle OR off), anything over 5-6 years can compromise the tire. Mostly dry rot. However, if stored in a cool dark place, or simply not driven on very much and regularly garaged, tires last a lot longer than 6 years.
