BFG KO2 Specific Question

Staying away from the earlier argument of BFG KO2's and their traction in rain and snow, here's a question for the owners out there on said KO2's.

Do you get any "bounce" up and down at high speeds? I understand there'll be vibration,..but i get a noticeable up-and-down vibration around 60mph.

No bounce. In my experience, with proper balance, there shouldn't be vibration either, just more noise compared to stock.

if you're getting bounce your tires are overinflated or you need new shocks

The aggressive tread wouldnt cause the up and down jiggle?

No. The flex in the agressive tread blocks will make your steering feel more vague, and definitely change the car handles and feels. But there should be no up down vibration coming from the tires. I agree with the above post: your tires might be over inflated.

Have you gotten this problem on a wide variety of roads? Since I changed my suspension and tires, I've found some improperly paved roads where constant up/down movement is more noticeable with my new setup.

no, the tread would have nothing to do with it unless they are cupped or something (which is a sign of alignment/suspension problems)



what pressure are you running your tires, and do you have C or E tires (and what size)?

There was no bounds or vibration with my stock rooms that have the duelers on them. It just had it’s 15,000 mile service, and I’m sure they would’ve told me if the shocks are leaking.

I haven’t looked on the side of the wheels yet, but is there a certain pressure that you would recommend?

i assume 265 tires? are you C or E load class?

i keep my C tires between 37 and 39

if you haven't checked your tire pressure, it's possible they are still overinflated from when they set the bead

I also put those tires on the black TRD rooms. Do those wheels require a center ring? I would imagine that because they are Toyota brand, that they don’t require anything of that sort

honestly you shouldn't spend any time worrying about this until you check your tire pressure

Hit speeds up to 90 on the highway occasionally and they ride very smooth and surprisingly quiet(ish)

I have E load (275s) as well, I have them inflated to 45psi.
I run 80-90 on the tollway to work everyday. No bounce, no vibration and not that much more noise than stock really. In fact, adding my rhino rack did more to increase the noise level than the tires did.

what pressure are they currently? measure the pressure while tires are cold

Can you be more specific? When you say bounce it implies that the tires are reacting to bumps. If you're getting wheel hop, which for lack of a better word is something induced by the tire or rim at specific speeds, your wheel is most likely out of balance. Could be as simple as a thrown wheel weight. I suggest going back to the tire shop and having them re-balanced.

get them balanced. They could be out of round, wouldn't be the first set of KO2's to be square shaped....

I ran them for a very short period of time but had zero vibration issues. I ran them in 285/70/17 and the perfect pressure was 34 PSI Mine were E rated also. The problem is very likely not the tires. Either incorrect balance, loose lug nuts, over inflated, under inflated, there's more to this story.
