BFG KO2 Treadwear Mileage/Mini Review

I just replaced all four BFG KO2 tires on my Runner with a brand new set of KO2’s after a GREAT run with my first set.

I went to Discount Tire for the rubber, and two of the tires had to be replaced during the life of the set, but they were replaced a short while after getting the original set, then simply rotated and balanced when necessary.

I got 89,684 miles out of that first set! The remaining two original tires had finally touched the 2/32” mark, but the other two that had been replaced (as mentioned above) were still at 4/32”. I put the best one on as my spare.

Additionally, I drove about 10,000 miles with a small nail in the outer shoulder of my rear driver side tire and never lost pressure. I know this could be viewed as a no-no, but to me it wasn’t worth having three tires at 7/32” and below and one brand new tire.

I mainly do city/highway/ranch driving, so YMMV if you’re usually in big rock crawling situations, but for a tire with no mileage warranty I am very pleased.

Lastly, (because not everything is perfect) I will say that below 5-4/32” tread remaining I noticed a little slip when raining and taking 90° turns (such as a right/left turn on city streets). Maybe my throttle foot was a little happy those times?! But also the tread compound is considerably louder at the end of the life of the tire. Didn’t realize it until I put the new tires on, but the sound level is night & day.

That's good to hear that you got so many miles out of your first set. I have the 265/70/17's in the C load with about 10k miles on them. I am thinking about going up to the 275's. Did you notice much of a hit in mileage when you went from your factory set to the 275's in E Load?

I honestly didn't have my factory set but only about 2,000 miles, and while I will say you can tell you're rolling larger tires (by upsizing to 275 A/Ts) I didn't didn't notice a drastic shift. Across the life of the vehicle (over 92,600 miles now) I am averaging 17.6 mpg, and I'm pretty pleased with that. I track my mileage manually via the Fuelly app for more precise mpg tracking.

What tires did you have before? Did you notice any difference in MPG drop with the 275 e rated tires?

I'm trying to decide if I want to go 275 but i'm scared of the e rating if its maybe 90% DD and 10% light trails

BFG's may not make the coolest looking tires on the block, but they do wear like iron.

I've been trying real hard to find reasons to replace mine (just to try something new) but i can't.

I'm in the same boat, and you are dead on with what you said. I have tried to make myself get another kind of tire... maybe more aggressive mud terrain or something that looks meaner (cooler) than the BFG K02's, but when I have 70,000 out of the first set without issue it's hard to make a change.
