So just a couple thoughts I wanted to share with the forum. I had Nitto Trail Grapplers one my 4runner for about 20,000 miles and they were great. They were super quiet on the highway, handled great, and were awesome off road. I didn't think it could get any better, however I heard great things about the KM2 and decided I was going to give them a shot. I run my tires down to about 50% tread and then sell on Craigslist and buy new ones. That way I always have fairly new tires.

Anyway, I bought the KM2's and they are even better than the Nitto's!!! They are just as quiet, but the ride is much better. I cannot believe that these are mud terrains and have such an aggressive tread. They feel like they are highway tires....almost :) I have not had them off road yet but have heard they are great and am not worried about it.

Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know how great these tires are. The Nitto's are awesome, dont get me wrong, I just feel like these are better. If anyone is on the fence about buying them, dont be, you will be very happy with your purchase.

I like this idea - never thought of it. I may do this when I take the OEMs off to put the Blizzaks on.
 
I am thinking of buying a set of 255/80/17 KM2s for my extra TE wheels to run next spring/summer. 33.3". I just don't like the 285 width, even though 99.9% run them.

Frankly a skinnier tire is better in almost ALL situations off road except rock crawling where maximum tread on the rock helps, and in sand where you need to displace the load over a large surface area, skinnier tires are better in snow, mud, water, and any terrain where digging in is helpful, they are also quieter on the highway, tram less, and over all will be more compliant than a 285 would be.

However with that said, the width difference between a 255 and a 285 is likely not enough to see much of the things I listed ;P
 
The KM2 is a great looking tire . One thing I have found is all tires like this are quiet when new . If you can give us a report on how they're doing when you reach 10,000 miles .
 
Don't these absolutely suck on snow and ice?
Are yours sipped?

Curious, I would be interested in getting them if they did good in the winter :)
 
I have had the KM2 BFG tires on my Jeep Wrangler for 2 years now. They are still as quiet as they were when new even with my soft top Jeep. They work great off road. I highly recommend them.
 
Snow and Ice is why I went with the Duratracs. They are a beast in the snow. I still have about half of the tread remaining but am thinking of trying something new, but the Duratracs are killer.

Congrats Ben! What size did you get? Pics?
I just went the other way last month and bought some GY Duratracs in 285/70/17 and sold my KM2's.

I'm having a little buyer remorse that I didn't buy another set to be honest. The Duratracs's are quieter,smoother ,get a little better gas mileage(only about 1/2-3/4 mpg) but they just don't feel as firmly planted and stable as the KM2's.My KM2's were E's and the DT's are D's and now running 50psi in them,up from 45 and still softer sidewalls then the KM2's at 45psi where I ran them.

I'll have to get used to them and GF is going to need new tires soon so I'll probably put them on her 4Runner if I don't. I'll probably run them thru the winter and buy some KM2's in 34's or 35's next spring. Should have it regeared and locked by then.

I put 28.5k miles on the KM2'S in a year and a half and still sold them on Craigslist for $450. I put a $450 OBO price on a Saturday and had 5 e-mails that night with people wanting them. Guy picked them up the next morning for $450 for his Dodge 4x4.I was surprised they got that much interest so fast. Guess I didn't ask enough but only paid $1100 new!

As far as the long term wear ,they started to get noticeably louder once that wear bar or sipeing on the outer lugs wore down at about 27-28k miles. They did great in the snow and ice we had here last year which was a pretty bad winter ..........for Texas. If I was up north or in the mountains all winter I probably wouldn't go with a mud tire anyways.

Thanks. I went with 285/75/17. So they are like 34's. I will take some pics tomorrow and post them.

We will see how they do in the snow. If they suck I will get them siped. Good thing about Colorado is its sunny all the time, so snow and ice doesnt stick around too long. Its not like up north or back east when you have snow on the roads for weeks.

I have not seen any difference in gas mileage yet. But just got them on and have not even been through a tank yet. I will keep track and let you all know in a couple weeks.
 
Gary, I am almost there on gears and an ARB for the rear. I am still waiting for the aftermarket rear gears to become available and then I am pulling the trigger. I cant wait!!!! I think it will make an unbelievable difference. It will drive like it was stock, something I have not felt in quite a while :) Gears and URD's charger and I have a feeling that thing will really get up and go!

That's what I'm saving money for and waiting for myself.Just Differentials contacted me a couple of weeks ago after I've been bugging Nitro Gear about them.

Here was their response -dated 9/15
Hi Gary,

We can offer you the OE Japanese import 4.56 rear gears along with the front right now, but if you wait about a month we will be getting the whole first batch of the Nitro gears in and will save you about $500. We’ve already received samples that are currently in use and as with all Nitro products the quality is fantastic. I can take your order at any time, and we won’t charge you until they arrive. Considering that we’ve sold lots of the expensive OE sets already, I expect the aftermarket sets to sell very well.

Thanks for the update, that is great news!!!! I knew they were close, but a month is fantastic. Just Differentials is who I was working with too. Looks like I need to give them a call.

Thanks again for sharing the news. If I get them in before you I will definitely let you know the difference!!!
 
I ran them on my Trail in 285/70/17 they are amazing in deep snow really good on wet pavement for a mud tire and for packed down snow on the street not so much they do good enough if you know how to counter steer in 2wd for some nice fishtails lol but all in all I was happy with them. I am thinking about duratracs next
 
I absolutely love my KM2's. They were awesome on the trail, we crawled through everything and I dont really remember any wheel spin, even in the challenge areas of LBL. I've probably got 8-10k on them, have had one rotation, and it doesnt really even look like they've worn down at all. Very happy, very pleased.
