BFG T/A KO vs Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac

I thought I had my mind set on Duratracs. I have about 5K miles left on my current tires. I stopped by American Tires yesterday to get quote on Duratracs. The sale rep told me that Duratracks do not last long and he saw they weared out in the middle a lot.

Now back to the ~1K dollar question. Duratracs or BFG KO?:wow2:

Well you are taking one opinion from a sales person. Go to Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and Discount Tire, Custom Wheels, Truck & Car Rims | Discount Tire and read some reviews by people who bought then and are currently running them. You can also find quite a few guys on here that run that tire and get their review about them. My next tire will be the GY Duratrac or Kelly Safari TSR for sure! The Kelly is made by GY and is a little bit cheaper than the Duratrac.

The sales rep sounds pretty dumb to me. If they were wearing out in the middle they had the air pressure too high.

They are still pretty new tires. I doubt many people have gone through a set.

What did he mean by "not long"? 25,000? 45,000?

I hated the Silent Armors I had on my Jeep, I thought they were crap. I've had the BFG KO's for over 45k and haven't had a single issue, I think it's a great versitle tire with a good agressive look.

Big X2 on that. If they are wearing out in the middle, it's due to overinflation. That would happen to any tire, salesman sounds like a typical salesman, must get more commission on other brands, lol.

I've had the Duratracs Load E on my 4runner for about 2 weeks. Prior to them I was running the BFG A/T.

I think the BFG's drove better on the highway, they were more predictable in the handling department. I find the Duratracs to be a less confident in high speed cornering.

IN the city, I find the Duratracs to be a little stiffer than the BFGs.

Looks wise, the Duratracs make the truck much more burly than the BFG's.

Price wise, the Duratracs were slightly cheaper.

Overall, I like both tires, but the BFG just never let me down. Never got a flat, got 55,000+ miles out of them, and good highway milage. My milage is down with the Duratracs.

Hey guys, I believe I started this thread and was just at work yesterday fooling around and made this pic. Since I haven't posted anything up after finally making a decision on my tires, I thought it would be a good time. I finally chose Firestone Destinations 265/75/16.

I think that photo looks cool. You probably picked the best tire for your type of driving. That's what is really important. I've taken my truck through deep snow, out on the beach and all over the Outer Banks without airing down, and through fire roads and a lot of big puddles, and my BFG ATs have worked great for me. They just passed inspection with over 98,000 miles on them! You get what you pay for. I really like the white out look of my tires. I think Duratracs are ugly.

How many years do they have on them? I'd like to see pics of how much tread you have left if they passed inspection. The problem with BFGs is the tread compound seems to harden after several years and around 50k miles which reduces traction thus they wear like rocks the longer you keep them but at the cost of performance. I get new tires by now.

allow me to chime in.

Duras look nice, havent used them personally.

I do have 32x11.5x15 BFG A/T on my 04 Tacoma. they have about 80k miles on them. No BS. And I've also never had a problem w/ any type of street driving (rain,snow, light mud on trails) Odds are, due to my size needed, I'll be getting some new BFG A/T. good all terrain tire with a well earned reputation.

If i'd have my choice I would get some Cooper S/T MAXX. Nice looking tread and made in the USA. But they do not come in 32x11.5x15. CooperTiresConsumer - Discoverer S/T MAXX<span class='trademark'>™</span>


When the time comes to replace the stock tires on my 11 Trail edition, i'll probably get the coopers.

I've had BFGs and awesome off road but defiently a step behind the Duratracs on the street especially in the wet. Yes,BFGs are adequate and probably not a noticeable thing wrong with them but once you drive on tires that are better you notice the BFGs shortcomings just as I thought BFGs were the sh!t 10 years ago but now I won't go with them again,too expensive for their so-so DD manners. Awesome tough tire off road tho'.

I only see about 4000-5000 miles a year on my truck so I'll be replacing my tires because of age well before they wear out.

I've been in the market for new tire for the better part of a year, noticed the Duratracs a while ago, but they aren't available in 32x11.5x15. Other than mud tires, not many tires are.

Can I put goodyear duratrac 275 65 18 on my limited 4runner v8 2008 ?

I have 1.25 inch wheel spacer.

If I remove front mud flaps and push the liner forward they will rub ??

I have 2.5 ds front and approx 1 inch rear ( ras )


I just want to make sure before purchase them ..

so i've heard from everyone that has the BFG A/T's that they are terrible in the snow, is that not so? they where ALL on jeep wranglers too if that makes any difference....
