Ride quality is not bad either. I like a firmer sidewall on the street especially the way I drive.
I am! They are heavy as heck. I lost very little mileage in switching to the KO2"s, but I also went up in size. The biggest thing is air pressures. Im finding that 25psi works good for my type of general desert running. Im running 35 on the street and so far my tire wear is good.
2007 Sport with a 3/2 spacer level kit. Currently have Michelin 265/70/17 tires on there now. Looking at the 275/70/17 BFG TKO2 tires or the 265/70/17 GoodYear Duratracs for my next tire. Anyone have any suggestions? Ive looked online and the reviews are pretty much 50/50. I'm 90% highway driver but also do some offroading when hunting season comes around. I will be using the stock FJ rims! I'm leaning towards the BFG TKO2's just because they're a little bigger.
I've run the old BFG ATKO on a 1st gen, a 3rd gen, and 4th. I've run the BFG ATKO and the Hankook ATM's on my 4th gen in a 265/70/17 with a 2/3 spacer lift and I have had NO RUBBING issues what so ever. The Hankooks were a little smaller and lighter which probably resulted in better gas mileage. I think the BFG's lasted a little longer before they got hard and useless (55,000 and 6 1/2) My Hankooks are at about 30,000 and were were installed 12/11 and they are already showing signs of getting hard.
I know this comparison doesn't help with your question about Duratracs, but my 2 goto tires are the Hankook and BFG. I chose the Hankooks because they ended up costing about 200 less than the BFG's which made the wife happy.
If $$'s were the same I'd go with BFG ATKO2's. I'm probably 75-80% dry roads and make 4-6 trips pulling PUP. Then it's snow, ice, off road, playtime and the BFG's have been awesome on all my runners. - Sorry t-man as I know how much you hate BFG's
Oh...I also test fit the BFG in the 285 after lift (if my memory serves me right the 275's weren't available in 2005) and it was close. As this was my work vehicle I opted to go smaller to make sure there was no rubbing. I would suggest a test fit first (all T4rs) are unique, but I think you would be good with the 275's.
I've always been a huge fan of the old KO's so I'm anxious to try out the new KO2's. Hearing they are an improvement is great. Plus I have to admit I love the white letter look! I'm sure the DT's are nice, but they are little pricey, so I'll be doing the KO2's on some MK6 wheels after I get the lift done. Can't wait! The hard part will be deciding between a 32 or 33" tire.
The only drawback to the KO2 if you even want to call it a drawback is that in real hard rocky surface type trails, I have to air down lower than 25psi in order to have the sidewalls be more complaint with the terrain.
Pulling the trigger on 275/75/17 BFG KO2s today.
Lol whoops I accidentally an extra five.look forward to seeing the 275/75/17's haven't see that size before
sorry just poking at you 275/70 is prob what your getting. 275/75 would be sweet
