This thread is intended to be used for Pictures / Videos and Comments on the Big Bear, CA 01/14/2012 Trip.

Thank you to everyone for the great trip and especially thanks to Pikeman for the great trail tips.

I will start putting up the pictures now. I have 720p YouTube video of most of the trucks in the group. I will get that online tomorrow.

We had 10+ trucks and it was pretty awesome even though there was no (fresh) snow.

Anyone who attended is encouraged to post videos / pictures.

The first two videos are online. See above. :thumb3:

The first video is a walk through of the meetup during the lunch break. My sister was filming. She tried to get all the trucks.

The second video is a mix up of 8 720p clips taken while driving on the dry side of the mountain before lunch. Again we tried to get the whole group.

The third video (upload in progress) is of us driving the wet side. It features snow, mud, slush and 8+ 4Runners!

Method
* Record multiple clips at 2-3 min each.
* Upload to YouTube without editing. Use YouTube's new VideoEditer to splice the clips together without reprocessing the video.
* Played music in the truck at a low volume to preserve the environment sounds.
* If you make an overlay with non-licensed audio YouTube's algorithm will take the video down but I think these will stay up.

Friday night
My CV boot tore, so my buddy who came along fashioned a sweet grocery bag/zip tie boot to keep stuff out of the grease.

Our burritos got cold, so...

Not a great photo, sorry, but this is essentially what we covered Friday night looking for a good camping spot.

Camped out in a small clearing at about 7600ft.

2nd day adventures (not including the meet). You can see the blue dot, that's a quad trail that I plowed through. It was scary, stupid, and dangerous, but was AWESOME.

Awesome Trip! How do I get in on the next trip? Is there a section on the forum on trips for the area? Tried looking but to no avail.

The run was a great run with a good turn out and some excitement.

Originally was going to do 3N61 Jacoby Canyon to 3N16 across to 3N12 to 2N71 over to 2N09 Polique Canyon and call it a day. Well after completing Jacob and hanging out at the Doble mine we headed down 3N16 and I decided that some of the newbies should see the John Bull Gatekeeper. So I decided to take 3N02....OOPS not the easy access road I had used before. So it was some sections with anticipation and carefull spotting and everyone got through just fine. We had lunch were 3N02/3N10 meet up with 3N32(the easy access trail I thought 3N02 was) I took a handfull of people to the Gatekeeper and no one else was there to watch make attempts. It was pretty badly iced over but looks like a lot of rocks had been moved and that it was easier than last time I ran it. Well after shooting my mouth off about how it looked like a freeway they said prove it. Well with a few minor adjustments I made it over the rocks but when I hit the V-notch my progress was halted by the snow and Ice, so instead of continuing to the top and turning around I had to back down through the rocks. This became more difficult than the accent as each bump knocked me off line. I still made it down without any damage and we then contiued on with the trip.

As mentioned some of the group split off to try Gold Mountain while the rest of us to the nice easy fire roads. We made the turn from 3N16 to 3N12, paused while I asked everyone if they were ok with snow as the Mountain ahead looked covered in it. We agreed to move on ahead the trail had some snow in spots but where the excitement came in was the downhill side. The slight snow coverage had turned to ICE. I headed down and started to slide, hit my breaks and realized it was the wrong move and managed to get my way out of it. The next person inline made the same mistake and well it took us a while to get him out of it. A couple hundred feet down the trail it happened again. This time it took most of an hour and a few close calls with the edge to put him back on the path. We decided to just stay on 3N12 and forgo the spectacular views of 2N71 to stay on the safe side since it was getting late and unknown trail conditions. Ended the day airing up at Fawnskin Firestation and making a few phone calls to check on the other groups were all safe.

I'm going to have to make the next trip. I've been trying to talk the finace into taking a trip to her relatives place in Thousand Oaks for a while now, but next meet I will have to make. Nice pics and definitely a lot of ugly dudes on that trip. :jk:
