It was pretty hot during the day but it was in the 40's at night. Besides, before I got our fire going, the mosquitos were murder, so we had to throw more clothes on.

We both have hand held CB radios and we have magnet mounted antennas for longer range.

I was at Big Bear several years ago in the spring and it was wet and muddy so I did not venture out to far and I was alone. Were the trails graded and realtively easy? Could you recomend some of the more scenic trails and the FR number (fire road#)? I intend to get back up there and explore later this year or next. I have heard there are some hard core trails but I am not interested in that.

The trail we camped on was actually pretty difficult. Not quite rock crawling, but almost. I hit my back hitch a few times and I have a 3" lift. The John Bull trail is insane though so stay away from that. We were in that general area though. Any of the fire roads are fine. A car couldn't do it, but they are stock friendly.

We took Clark's Grade up about half way, then took a few other trails to get to the lake. Then we went north of the lake for the 4X4 trails.

We decided to stop heading down this trail and looked over the side and found a car that had fallen off the cliff

wow!!! that looks like so much fun... do you think any trails can be taken with a 4x2 t4r?... or should i just stick to the paved roads?... i go to big bear in the winter for snowboarding, but now can also dry camp like you guys... AWESOME!!!

Haha, yeah, but I can still see out of them. The angle you see is deceiving. It looks like I am going with SAW 2.0 coilovers in front, and OME in rear. I am just waiting on someone from Toyota 120 to see if he can get me the SAW's for less than $650. Right now i found a source to get me all of those parts for about $960.

Yeah you would be fine on the fire roads, and even some of the trails. We saw cars, and other "inferior" vehicles. Just make sure you know where you're headed because some of the trails we were on might quite literally end up with you walking out.

Thanks for the info. I have a 2.5 lift and bfg all terrains so i should be good. I will get out a map a study this some.

Blair only has a 2/1 and he was fine.

There were def a few moments where I was pretty scared for my lack of clearance, but if you are careful you should be fine on most the trails

As was I. Some spots I came down on my tow hitch very hard.
