Probably my favorite place. Was out there last month. You do river road or black gap?

Yea it was amazing out there! We did the river road east trail over to the Glenn springs trail. One of the park rangers I spoke with made black gap seem super difficult and it was just my wife and I so I was playing it safe. Did you try out black gap?
I went to BB a few years ago, but stuck to the roads because I didn't have a capable vehicle. Now that I have a T4R, I want to go back and do the trails (even more so after seeing your pictures!). I only have the stock tires, though. How much of a requirement are MTs out there on the dusty trails?

We did River road east also and camped at gravel pit. A thunderstorm rolled in the night we camped there and the Rangers said to avoid going farther into river road because it's prone to flooding and can get pretty nasty when wet. Same with black gap, seemed a little gnarly to do in the rain, and I didn't have any experienced spotters with me. Next time!

Black Gap is a cakewalk now. They concreted in the rocks on the approach; used to be that you had to stack rocks (and then unstack them) if your rig wasn't up to the challenge.
Old Ore road is good too.
Next time you are out there take the time to head over to the state park. It is way more remote than the NP. 300,000 acres and not a single paved road; you will be lucky if you see another person your entire stay. Reserve the Guale 2 campsite in advance, best views in the entire park.

The trails I went on weren't too bad at all. I did river road east and Glenn spring trail. I ran across a bone stock jeep out there with stock tires and he was easily making it through the trails. There are a bunch of rocks though so I would suggest airing down a bit if possible for a better ride and to minimize your chance of a flat. I'm not too sure how it is after a good rain though. It was really try when I was out there.

Congrats on the new ride. That'll be nice to get out there and break it in. It's amazing how capable they are. Glenn Spring was awesome though

Thanksgiving will be "crowded" the parks high season is the winter months but still you should be able to get a disperse campsite.
Fuel is available at Panther Junction (Park HQ) and at the Rio Grande village. so there is plenty. although would be a good measure to take at least a few gallons to spare (If not for you maybe for a stranded person).
Ole Maverik road is IMHO the best drive of the park.

MT are not needed, but a decent AT is. The problem is not grip or getting stuck, the issue is likely hood of a puncture due to the vegetation down there. The OEM tires a street tires so the sidewall are weak and will puncture fairly easy.

I'm definitely going to have to head out west that direction sometime in the spring!
