BIG Deer attacks 4runner!!!!

Ok, so after a week in NW Montana, coming back from vacation, 6 miles down the road from our cabin, a BIG deer jumps in front of me. I brake, swerve, try to avoid it....no luck. Yes, the runner is stock in front. that means no I do not have a brush gaurd, or as I will now call them, a dear guard. I nail the deer on the front right side of the truck and send it flying, then it mocks me by landing on its feet after doing a 360 in the air and running off!!!

So damage report...
right head light assembly pushed in and top bracket broke
Grill pushed in and broke
right side of bumper pushed in about 2 inches
bug shield broke
radiator mount assembly (also what the grill snaps to) pushing in on right side about 1 inch.

deer appeared ok but may have died later, I was not going to chase it up the mountain to find out!

This happens as a snow storm is starting.
Truck still drives fine!

HA!! Score toyota!!

So, Im still mad about the truck/deer attack. 10 miles down the road I look back into the back seat and my dog (full grown Akita) has a look of "Im sorry Dad, do not kill me please!" on her face as she squats and...diahrea everywhere!!!

2 hours of cleaning that out as best as possible...and it WAS right on the joint where the seats foild together...in a snow storm....it still smells but all the "matter" is gone.

I get home and all over the news is this thing about bad dog food, dogs dying from it, and dogs with diahrea from it. I look up what I gave her the night before as a treat and guess what...it IS on the list of recalls/ throw away!

So...now that everyone is laughing/crying/vomitting....

1) Please....I need a heavy duty bumper replacement with deer gaurd! recomend please? I do not want to break the bank

2) Any ideas to get rid of the smell. How to clean the seats?

hahaha sorry to hear about that. I just got involved in a wreck a couple weeks back where the right part of my front bumper was messed up and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, the deer probably didn't have insurance and has fled the scene of an accident. I just got my check from the girl at fault for 1100 and purchased an ARB Bull Bar from 4x4 connection less than an hour ago. Either an ARB or TJM is your best bet, but you're looking at around 700 buck (hahahaha...get it....buck?) sorry, not funny

How would a brushguard make the damage worse on his 4Run?
 
the way its attached causes more extensive damage to other parts of the car, sometimes promoting frame damage and such
 
ARB or TJM will be your best bet. I hit 3 kangaroos simulateously once back home. I had an arb bullbar and the only damage i had was my front licence plate got ripped off and one driving light got smashed, so I'm pretty confident they will stand up to a deer 'attack'.
Will your insurance cover the damage? At least then you might only have to pay the deductable. Any pics of the damage?
Hope the pooch is better and the smell goes away.

As for the 4runner. I have looked at the damage and I think I can get away with doing repairs myself as long as the inspection shows no frame damage from the bumper being pushed in. If that is the case, I just need to bend the one corner of the hood back, bend the part the grill snaps into back and replace the headlamp housing and grill. I will try to get picks.

The worst part is trying to get rid of the smell!

Would a T-15 or T-17 be better? One has the brush guard with it and one doesn't and that is the only difference correct? If so, wouldn't it be better to go for the brush gaurd as well to avoid the animal getting undercut by just the extended bumper and then rolling onto the hood? Thoughts?
 
A T-15 will offer more protection and is a stronger bar. Animals sometimes bounce off, go over the hood and roof, though the windsheild, under the car or imbed themselves somewhere. There are way too many variables to predict whether or not something will roll up onto the hood, but the T-15 will provide solid protection for your lights and grill and leading edge of the hood.
It seems that those who choose a T-17 do so because they dont like the looks of the tube work on top or simply do not want that extra level of protection. Still a strong product, but just with slightly reduced protection. Look for pics of Lee's rig for the T-17.

Well, it was more like three within one second. It was dusk and a mob (the offical 'group term') of about 10-15 were grazing near the side of the road and as I approach they paniced. Some went across the road and some went away from the road. I was hard on the brakes so not sure what speed I hit them at but I was coming down from 100 kmh. Was a horrible feeling and gave me a good fright. I was driving the Hilux pictured.

I'm from Australia. I moved to the USA 18 months ago. Sorry for the confusion, I'm used to saying 'back home' meaning australia.
But there are some kangaroos here in Pittsburgh, but they're in the zoo!

sorry to hear this.

A dear hit my driver side couple months ago. My whole mirror is gone and also damaged my window guard, some dents on my door. Lucky it didnt' break my window.:(

It was $200 fix and my friend help me fix the dent.

Later on, I went to Advance Auto to buy a dear whistle installed inside the bumper behind the grill. It's only$6 and the guy in Advance Auto told me it works. So what the head, it's only 6 bucks.
 
A deer hit my 99 a while back. Ran into my drivers door during rutting season at full speed--I was going maybe 40. Her head hit my driver door window, her rear hit the driver side rear door. Messed up side all the way to rear bumper extension. $2500--insurance paid less $500 deductible.

Whats with deers running into cars. I can see how cars can hit them, but a actually hit my dads explorer (as i see happened with a few other people on here) He had minimal damage (basketball size dent on lower passenger door). Nothing like when my mom hit a cow in her old explorer. They should have totaled it, but ended up paying us what the car was worth and not totaling it. We had it fixed for half what they paid us, and then sold it for $500 more than we paid for it.

Well, when it's the rut, they are thinking about one thing. If a buck is chasing a doe, either one will run across a road with no thought as to any traffic on it. They know they can dodge any tree or jump any fence, ditch or stream--but a moving 4Runner in the wrong place is a guaranteed collision because they can't go around and they can't go over..
