Biggest tire size safe on stock setup?

There are two factory tire sizes, depending on how the truck was optioned. The factory tire size also dictates gear ratios and brake size too. Don't trust the door sticker though, most of the 16" wheel trucks still show 225/75-15 as the tire size. If you can get a VIN report from Toyota that shows the options your truck was equipped with, it will show the actual wheel/tire package the truck came with.

They were either: 225/75-15 tires or 265/70-16 tires, either one with matching wheels.

Yes, smaller discs and calipers in the front and smaller wheel cylinders in the rear (otherwise the same drums/shoes).

Just don't trust the sticker on the front door jamb for factory wheel size - they basically all say 15", even when most (at least 4WD's) are 16" trucks.

Mine was an original 15" wheel truck, but it was a fairly low-optioned 2WD SR5 (only rack/spoiler/hitch and rear heater, no sunroof or sport options). All 16" wheel trucks had some sort of 'flare' - either the little chrome strips or any of the larger flare options, depending on year/trim.

Looking at your coil comparison gave me an idea. Are the coils interchangeable throughout the years? I have a 2001 SR5 sport with the lowest clearance of the 3rd gens. Could I put 98/99 coils to get a little extra lift on my stock vehicle? Just a thought. Thanks for the info

99 coils are taller and will net you some lift

I currently have the stock 15" wheels w/ 31x10.5R15 BFG KOs. I'm going to need some new tires soon and I was looking into getting some 32x11.5R15 tires. But my concern is will it rub.

I don't really go off road and the front is currently stock height. If I do go off road, it will be mainly dirt since it's a 2wd vehicle. I am thinking of doing a 1.5-2" body lift to the front to even it out w/ the back since I upgraded the rear springs on the 4runner 12-13 years ago and just forgot to do the fronts due to life.

I'm also still debating on whether to purchase the 17" stock SR5 5th gen 4runner wheels. I know that the 265/70R17's and 31x10.5R15s are comparable in width for the most part, 10.43 for the 265s and 10.5 for the 31s. Will that extra inch on width cause some rubbing issues?

Just bought a 2000 t4r sr5. Has a 2.5 inch lift. Was wondering what would be the largest tire size I could put in it without rubbing at all? Was looking at some bfg ko2 but not sure what size to get. Thanks

265 75 r16 or 285 75 r16 with pinch weld mod, bfh pounding and mud flap removal also upper control arm arm grinding.

These trucks haven't changed since the thread was started. The answers are already there. 265/75-16. If you get rubbing in the front, a correct alignment (increased caster) will fix it. No other mods necessary.
