285/75/18 is approx a 35" tire. To get that size to fit you'll need a body lift, heavy trimming, body mount chop and hammering pinch welds.

285/65/18 is approx a 33" tire. You can fit these with minor trimming, body mount chop and removal of the front mud flap.

I run 285/70/17 with spidertrax and i'm rubbing the body mount like crazy.
 
Whats the biggest size I can use that wont rub? And can anyone show me a picture of what I'd need to trim if I wanted to fit the 285/65/18s?

Would 275/65/18 fit without rubbing? What about 275/70/18? Sorry for all the questions guys I just want to get a big tire without any rub
 
Pretty much anything above 265's will rub, so my vote is for 33's. I think if you go smaller than a 33 you'll lose your goal of a big tire. Rubbing really isn't bad on a 33 for street driving. Full flex off road will really show the rubbing. I just put 295/70/17's on my 4R with 3" lift and no BL, and the trimming wasn't terrible...still working on it though.

Do I even need to say it....we need pics. :biggrin2: That sounds awesome. I can't believe you only had a little trimming with that size...I would've guess major trimming and body mounts chop at that height.

Back on topic: I would stay away from the true 33" tires and stay around the smaller 33" (285/65/18) unless you are also doing a huge bodylift. I've got 285/60/18s on mine right now with nearly 4.5" of lift and it looks great. Although my goal is to upside to 285/65s down the road (unless common sense kicks in as its my DD. Ha), but you may want to look at that size as well if your still concerned with rubbing, mpg and performance hit with heavier tires. I still get around 19-20.5 with my driving.

OK...So the tire you have linked is a 275/70/18 which will put you at 33.2" tire. Your stock tire IIRC is a 265/60/18 which puts stock at 30.5" tire.

Question: Will they fit with an OME lift?
Answer: Yes, it will fit

Question: Will it rub?
Answer: Yes, absolutely

Question: What is the biggest size that you can add that won't rub?
Answer: if you plan on pairing it with spidertrax - 265/60/18 (safe assumption but not proven)

The issue that you'll run into is that if you combine the larger tire plus spidertrax, you will rub. no question about it. you might be able to get away with adding spidertrax with stock tires and not rub but once you start upsizing you are in for rubbing.

If you were to say go to 265/65/18 + Spidertrax, here is a link to what you can expect to trim (scroll to the bottom): JA 4Runner - Wheel Spacer/trimming.

Now, if you are set on going bigger than that, you will need to go a step further.....Moving the liner even more forward, trimming more bumper, either cutting or removing your front mud flap and in all likelihood chopping your body mount.

I currently run 285/70/17 which is a 32.7" tire (equivalent to your 285/65/18 tire you asked about earlier) with a 3" lift and I removed the front mud flap, had to adjust the liner, trimmed the front bumper and I still rub my body mount pretty consistently on-road. Not sure if you off-road at all but you're going to rub even more if you are. Also take into consideration that you cannot fit the 275/70/18 or 285/65/18 in your stock spare location.

knights- Listen to Darkie, hes done a great job of laying it out for you. From reading your posts-its seems like you aren't going to be happy unless you fit the maximum size you can with only "reasonable" rubbing. Personally I would look at the 275/65/18 and 285/65/18s. Also, if you can deal with a skinnier size and less selection, check out the 265/60/18s. Its still 32.6 tall while retaining the smaller profile and lighter weight (better mpg). Again, as already mentioned, you will have to decide how much performance you are willing to give up and if you want to have a matching spare.

Since you have mentioned the 275/70/18 a few times, it seems you may be leaning that way. That size is rare on this site (and all other 4th gen forums) due to the reasons already mentioned. However, there are a few members that come to mind. See KrazyNative's post here as hes running that exact tire also. T4RVA was also running that size in GY SA but decided to downsize to 275/65/18s due to rubbing. You may want to contact them for any specific questions regarding that size as very few have actually ran it. However, there are others who run the same diameter and larger so just search around.

Thanks Crimson! Couldn't resist...Crappy cell picks (I'll take better when i can and post in the proper thread) but you can get an idea of the fit...which IMO is perfect.

WOW!!! That looks amazing. Please post more pictures. That is one of the best looking combinations I've seen. I have to ask the two most obvious questions...1) How much trimming/chopping did you have to do and 2) What kind of MPG hit did you take with those. Not only are they huge but they are heavy as crap. Like I said, can't wait to see some bigger pictures.

BTW, sorry took so long to respond back. I forgot about this thread. Ha.

Thanks, I'm really happy with them thus far. They're def more aggressive in person than they appear in pics. Haven't had a chance to get them dirty yet, but have been pleased with the one the road ride. Trimming wasn't terrible, but did take a little work. Trimmed plastic, chopped BM, and hammered pinch weld. I will say though that I did a bit more than needed for these though being I plan to go larger in the future when I re-gear. Gas did take a hit being they are wide and heavy, but I really don't commute with it anymore, so I don't care. Haven't actually measured the difference though. More pics coming, I've just been slammed since we had our second child in Aug.
