just got this reply from my congressman

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1925, America's Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009. One of the most important parts of my job is to hear the many perspectives from the people I represent. That's why I come back to Maine almost every single weekend - so I can stay in touch with what's on the minds of the people of Maine's Second Congressional District.

As you know, the Red Rock Wilderness Act would designate specified lands in areas of Utah as components of the National Wilderness Preservation System. It also sets forth administrative provisions for the management of the area by the Secretary of the Interior, the exchange of state-owned lands within such areas, federal reservation of water rights, measurement of setbacks for roads with wilderness, and authorized livestock grazing.

I have long believed that protecting our most impressive landscapes for the use and enjoyment of future generations is essential. I also believe that cooperative efforts to preserve landscapes like this are often the most successful, and I will continue to push the federal government to work with local residents and groups to conserve the natural resources of these areas.

On April 29, 2009, America's Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009 was referred to the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands. Please know that I will keep your thoughtful comments in mind as this bill makes its way through the legislative process.

Thank you again for sharing your views with me. In addition, I also provide occasional email updates on a range of issues affecting people in Maine. With warmest regards,
