Bilstein 2.5 max and ride quality

Hi. 2007 4runner 2wd, stock coils and Bilstein 5100 all around. Just increased front setting from 1.75" to the top notch at 2.5" lift. Ride now appears to be much firmer (not harsh) than at the 1.75 setting. Problem is I like the looks at the 2.5 setting but wife likes the ride at 1.75 setting.

So instead of dropping down to 1.75, is there any other options to keep the lift at 2.50 with a slightly softer ride? Was thinking of a few options but don't know if any will really help much.

1. the obvious--"you'll get used to it".
2. Drop down to 1.75 setting with an approx 0.25 spacer on top
3. Drop down to no lift on 5100s (bottom setting) and get 2.5" spacer
4. Drop down to 0.85 setting with a 1" spacer (don't know if that's possible)

Not sure if any of those options will work so looking for any help or comments. thanks!

I put Old Man Emu 883 coils on the front with the Bilsteins set at 0 lift and I am up about 2.5". I have a 07 V6 4X4.

I though the OME 883 coils would only lift around 1.5", I was planning on moving up the Bilsteins one or two notches but don't need to now.

The ride is great with the OME coils and the Bilsteins.

For ride quality I think lifting by coils or the Bilsteins is better and safer than a spacer lift... But I'm no expert.

So I could use OME 883 coils on the front and set Bilsteins at 0 lift and then if not enough lift I could set to next notch at 0.85 lift with these coils?

How is the ride quality compared to the stock ride?

And another thought--would new 4runner oem springs used with Bilsteins at 1.75 setting maybe get me to 2.5" total lift?

thanks!

Ride quality is great with the OME883. A small amount stiffer than stock V6 4X4, the two wheel drive might have an even softer and or shorter spring... Not sure.

You may get 2.5" to 3" lift with two wheel drive?? Not sure... But if you don't get enough lift you can always go up a notch on the Bilsteins.

Not sure about the new t4r springs but the FJ Cruiser spring upgrade is one of the most popular on this form... Check out the 4th gen suspension options/FAQ ... Tons of great info and options!

Thanks for the responses and OME883 is definitely an option.

I am still curious though about installing new 4runner oem coil springs and amount of lift. When I purchased my used 2007 a few months ago, the rake was about 3"--not the standard 2" factory rake I have read about. So maybe the front springs sagged over time about 0.75-1 inch?

Front Bilsteins at 2.5 max setting with current factory springs give 2.5" lift. If I install new oem Toyota springs, and set Bilstein at 2.5, will I get more than 2.5" of lift ??

thanks!

5100 Adj. Questions

Just wanted to see if anyone had anymore input on this?

My set up currently:

Front:
5100's adjustable set at 2" lift
2010 FJ Trail Team Springs

Rear:
3-4" Spacer (CAN'T REMEMBER EXACT)
2010 FJ Trail Team Bilsteins
2010 FJ Trail Team Springs

I have the vehicle at the 2" lift because I was worried about how compressed the front springs were getting. The FJ TT springs have a couple more wraps of coil versus the OEM T4R Sport Springs.

BUT, I've still got a little rake versus the rear. Roughly 1"-2".

That said, I'm thinking about moving the C-Ring to the 2.5", but I'm worried about ride quality.

Anyone who has experience with the Billy's @ 2.5"? Any testimonies good/bad/indifferent?

Thanks!

Brip

I have no experience with this particular coilover set, but it sounds like raising the C-clip height may be pre-loading the spring, which can affect ride quality. maybe someone else can comment.

Ideally, you'd preload the spring as little as possible to maintain a better ride. I've got the Toytec 620# spring at .85 and it's a pretty good ride with 3 inches of lift.

Do you have a v8 or v6? I just got my 5100s and Toytec springs, and was trying to figure what setting for 3"

Not sure if this is the correct thread to ask this question. I'm wanting to add bilstein to just level it but would like to have the right height to add 33" tires. I keep seeing where people have added coils especially the FJ. Is it necessary to add coils for what I'm wanting? Or can I just do a 1.75 lift on the front and leave the back? I'm not opposed to the coil addition just trying to save some dough. Btw 2007 sport edition with v6

Just adding 5100s set at a higher perch will yield between .85-2.5 inches of lift depending on the perch, but will only help mitigate rubbing if you're not articulating the suspension much (on-road driving). Anything higher than 1.75 and you'll probably want at least a spacer or coil in the rear to level you out or keep some rake in case you load up the trunk.

You will have to push the tires out with a better offset wheel or spacer on OEMs so you don't rub the UCA. You'll also need to trim the inner wells to prevent rubbing and potentially chop your body mount, especially if you're keeping OEM UCAs (Lack of caster adjustment).

At 2.5 inches of lift, you might consider UCAs anyway. I know a lot of people say it's fine, and technically, you probably will be fine, but in my experience, it's very twitchy at highway speeds and I much prefer the ride after I added UCAs.

There's a ton of info out there, and everyone will have their own take on suspension mods and stuffing the biggest tire possible. You just need to find what's best for your needs.

Ok so 1.75 lift I can somewhat level it out, keep the stock coils in the rear and move up a little on the tires. I do tow a 1100lb teardrop so a little rake when not towing would compensate when I am towing. Thanks for the help

Im running my bilsteins at 2.5" with Fj coils so im pushing 4 inches. I just installed aftermarket SPC UCA's and it makes the ride feel like stock. I haven't had any problems so far.
