Bilstein 4600's - lift?

Hey guys,

So I think I finally decided on the Bilstein 4600 strut and shock kit for Truck.

2000 T4R V6 SR5 2WD

My question is this... Can I add a spring lift kit with the Bilstein 4600's?

My research says that the 4600's are meant to upgrade the stock struts and shocks while keeping the 4Runner at stock height. That being said, I do want to get new springs front and back in the future as I want to be able to load my truck for camping and hauling lumber (I'm an avid hobby woodworker).

On a related topic, I hear a scratching or scraping sound when I reverse and my steering wheel is turned all the way left or right. It sounds like wheels are scraping my fenders but when I look underneath there seems to be plenty of gap between my wheels and fenders. Will a lift fix that problem?

I've basically decided on OEM 881 front and 891 rear coils.

Will my two choices work together?

I think you can get away with 881's with 4600's but with 891 4600's are too short. From what I know 4600's are good up to 2" of lift. The 891's will give you 3".

Anybody else care to chime in?

I have a 98 V6 4x4 4Runner with 99 tall on the front with stock shocks and OME 906 on the rear with Tokico GE3536 and I love my ride, my lift and no sag. Recommended.

So can I put Bilstein 5100's on my rig? The kits I've found say they're for 4WD but I've seen guys on here with 2wd using the 5100's. If I can use them that'd be awesome!

Air bags....problem solved....use when you want...have the nice comfortable ride when not. Plus for a 100 and an hours time.

Is this what you're talking about? It's already on my Amazon list for "4Runner". I read about it on another thread here. So should I even bother with springs then?

I have Tundra 5100 in the rear. 4wd - 2wd it's all the same. Check out Wheelers.com If you do decide on 5100's for the front don't forget to get the bushings. They are separate for the front....they don't come with them. Why? Who knows.

I've got 5100s with the Toytec 3" lift springs. You'll be fine.

I think 891s will be overkill for what you want.
Do you have a rear plate bumper, swing out tire carrier, rear Jerry cans? If not, get the 906 or 890s

Don't have those things. But I am building a rack to help me haul camping gear and lumber. If those other springs will still suffice I'll head that direction.

The 4600's are really only meant for stock height (as high as '99 talls). They will also be valved a bit soft for stiffer springs meant for heavy loads. If you really are lifting, I'd suggest going to a shock setup meant for that. Get the 4Runner specific 5100's if they will fit your needs and you want to stick with Bilstien and a mild lift. Once in the 'lift' territory, there are tons of options... happy searching/reading on that one. You will get about 1/4" to 1/2" extra lift without the extra weight of the 4WD components in the front.

4WD suspension parts will fit your 2WD truck. The suspension geometry is essentially the same.
