Bilstein 5100 general function question

Ok, so am I missing something? Is this thin circular piece of spring metal the only support for the bottom spring base? It can take all that punishment?

The instructions show no other pieces, but it just doesn't seem right. Explanation please...

Yes, that little ring is holding up the front of your 4runner. As such, it's very important to make sure that ring is fully seated in the groove before assembling the coilover. The spring seat fits over this ring and prevents it from popping out.

I had 5100's on my 4th gen for around 100k miles and didn't have any issues other than the 5100's just felt tired so I replaced them with 6112's which use the same setup.

It's thicker than the piston rings in the engine that are going to be cycled through a few million fuel explosions over the life of the vehicle. :wink2:

Make sure you also orientate that bottom perch the correct direction or else it'll ride super messed! Another common mistake I see people do when installing these.
