Bilstein 5100 + top plate spacer

Hi all. Currently have Bilstein 5100 shocks on my 2007 4runner 2wd. They are adjusted to lowest zero setting with Daystar budget boost spacer giving total lift of about 2".

I want to firm up the ride just a tiny bit. Considering moving shock setting up to .85 or 1.75 and adding Toytec top spacers. Goal is to get total lift to about 2.5".

Would it be acceptable to use a top plate spacer if adjusting shocks to other than the bottom 0.00 setting? thanks.

Nice. How was the ride quality on the street? I heard that setting at 1.75 results in a stiff ride for regular highway/city driving. thanks.

Go with the 0 setting and add ebiach lift Springs. Will get you your 2.5 lift and will ride a lot better. It will cost more but the ride is worth it

A Daystar budget boost provides about 2" of lift and you set 5100 at 1.75" lift as well. That would give you about 3.75" of lift. Is that correct?

The math would make the lift at 3.75, but the physics really didn't come out to that. I also had FJ springs on mine as well, which would make it 4.75ish with the math.

I have since changed some things. I now have OME 885's and the same billies at 0" setting with the toytec 1/4inch thick spacer on both sides.

The new set up is about 1/4" higher than the budget boost and billie at 1.75.

As far as the ride, there really isn't much difference between the 2. The new setup is "slightly" better on road. The new setup also provides better braking performance "less nose dive". I have not tested, but they new should also be much better in articulation as well.

After doing both, like Jslum said, go with proper coils and do it correctly. Chances are you will end up doing the coils or coilovers anyway after awhile on the spacers.

Just FYI, my rear set up is Toytech superflex 2" rear spring with a Daystar 1.5" spacer cut down to 1" on both sides. I am setting exactly 1" higher in rear that the front. All the way around.

Dont want to start a new thread but can I put a 1 inch spacer on top of my toytec BOSS coilover? They came set at 2.5 inches, I can adjust them but I broke a spanner wrench already and would the ride be better if I had a spacer vs cranking them up ? Also yes it was jacked up and both tires were off and no pressure on coils and had penetrating oil on the threads before I adjusted them. Have Superflex HD rear coils and sits a little stink bugged.

its the exact thing i have. mine are set at ~1.5" with a 1" thick spacer on top to give me 3.5" of actual lift. i did it to soften up the ride and give me the most down travel i could possibly get. the threads on the BOSS coilovers have always given me issues. i just take the entire thing out and power wash it, then PB blast it and then lube with a dry lube i use on my uniballs ever 6 months or so. oh and yes the ride will be much better than cranking them. the entire reason i did mine was i hated it with that much preload, and i wanted my travel since i wheel the piss out of it. 10/10 would recommend over cranking it.

You happen to know what coil spacer you used or have a link I see toytec has a 2 inch but doesnt look like it would work for the toytec shocks only stock here's the installations Is this what you did ? https://www.toyteclifts.com/images/stories/pdf_files/05upSpacer2.pdf

this is the spacer i used. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HV2KFFU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

using the type that sits inside/under the top hat would give the same ride as just cranking the coilover since it just preloads the spring. the kind you want is the one that bolts on top of the top hat

You're absolutely right. The actual height varies from vehicle to vehicle. Because I couldn't find the proper answer to my question, I had to use my truck to RnD. Now that I know what i need to do to get the same height i can move into a properly set up coilover. I honestly don't see 5100's holding to 33's, much less 35's. I do however, like the digressive set up on the 5100. I think Icons will be the choice of coilovers.
