bilstein 5100/toytec review and pics

So been fee weeks since I got my new lift in. Haven't really taken it off roading yet but on the road it's a big difference. The truck feels more glued to the ground and not all over the road. The ride isn't like a Cadillac but it's a big improvement over stock. I wouldnt say the ride is amazing , you can still feel some bumps and it is still bouncy but it's a truck so what do you expect. So far I like the new set up.

Ride quality : 8/10
Installation difficulty : 5/10 need proper tools !

Front :
* shocks : bilstein 5100 2nd perch
* coils : toytec eibach
*fatbobs front diff drop
* brake lines : stop tech stainless steel

Rear :
* shocks : bilstein 5100 long travel aka fj cruiser
* coils : toytec superflex
* sonoransteel extended bump stops
* toytec : panhard drop kit.
* brake lines : stop tech stainless steel bent the tab.



As you can see, ss extended bump stops doing their job !!

Thanks bud. Does your rear shock boot look also compressed? I feel like these shocks are missing a lot of down travel, truck sits level on ground , it's jot to far before if you flex the whole shock will be compressed. Do you know what I mean ?

Got the mesh of Tacoma forum. Guy makes/sells it there. Has different styles also.

What did you spray on the diff?

Wire wheel + brake cleaner + ( VHT CHASSY PAINT ) around $7 a can. Good stuff. AutoZone and advanced auto both have it.

So it says yes, and it's primer + paint. But if you like you can still throw some primer on raw metal. Btw it's cheaper at the store.

I have always wondered how people avoid hitting everything surrounding the diff though? When I spray paint, it goes everywhere, thus the need to tape stuff off.

Nope, no tape needed. Just spray it ! It's under the car. You just got to aim nicely and steady spray. You watch out for shocks, coils, other then that it's spray and spray !!

As of now nothing ? They are brand new. And also have a fstbobsgarage front diff drop so looks good.

You and I have the same setup except I'm running 890s in the rear. I had to add a couple of trim packers so my rear wouldn't be lower than the front. I've had this setup now for about 12,000 miles and I still like it.

Put new cv same day when the new lift was going on.


What's nice about superflex is they are little higher then eibachs so it has rake and one coil is taller then the other to elimate driver side lean and you don't need a spacer in front.

Thanks bud. Just need to replace my upper ball joints. They have lifetime warranty so I'll be picking up new set for free soon. Basically the truck is all up to maintance. As far as I know.

New front and rear main seals
New valve covers
New timing belt kit
New belts
Spark plugs
Wires
New fluids except tranny
New front rotors and pads
New axles,inner, outter, upper , lower
Brake lines
Suspension
New radiator with Toyota red coolant.
Fresh oil every 3000k

Missing anything ? Should I look at something else.

Wondering, whoever else runs this set up on 2nd perch up front and superflrx in back. How much rake do you have and do you have any additional weight in back, bumper, gears ect. How does the vehicle stand then.

Trans cooler, LBJs, swaybar end links (assuming you have one in front. Use new front end links in the back - they are longer). Tie rods, rack bushings.
