Maybe a dumb question, but what is special about these? Are they basically a pre-assembled coilover straight from Bilstein?

Nothing "special" but they are an awesome shock for the price.

They are a 2.6" performance coilover that are based on the bilstein 5100 design but feature a 50% larger shock piston and a much larger shock rod & body. They provide a similar level of performance to the big name 2.5" coilovers on the market, while costing about half the price.

I've been told that if they can't, or don't want to invest the time in sorting out the issues, they intend to go back to the BTS system with a threaded shock body ... I assume at a higher price.

We spoke with Bilstein on Sunday. They have not pulled any parts numbers nor ceased production. They have temporarily removed the 5th gen 4runner from the application list as they determine all the height variances, and get some accurate measurements. This doesnt mean you should not pick up a set, it just means you need to be aware of the height discrepancy. There are at least 75 5th gen 4runner guys rocking these and loving the ride and performance. There is no change on the part number for the FJ application or the 4th gen 4runner application, this is strictly the 5th gens.

They will either update the lift height chart, or released a new part number with some height settings changes. Bilstein has informed us the shock has no other issues and still recommend it for the 4runner, they just want to get the lift height amounts dialed in. From what we were told, threaded shock bodies are not an option for this series.

Some of the customers are measuring their stock heights to the 6112's and coming up with different heights. With that said, Production has stopped until the engineers with Bilstein & Toyota come up with a solution.

This DOES NOT pose any complications with the customers who currently own the 6112's. We have only a couple of sets left for those who want them and will have to figure out which height they want to set these and set a base line heights from there. Once this is figured out and production is resumed these could available again at the end of the year.

Last night i had 6 in stock, Now down to 3 sets.

Well, Bilstein told me 8 different springs, but at this point, who's counting?

And you're right, it's not a problem for those that have installed and achieved acceptable results. Mine are going in Thursday evening by a Toyota mechanic, and I'd like to just do the install once. I've got a green/white coil on one side, and an orange/white coil on the other. Bilstein told me that all the lean on Toyotas definitely comes out of the rear, and that is where it should be corrected. So, why does Toyota use 2 different coils on the front?

Bilstein told me to just install my 6112's, and if I'm not happy, to return them, but since this is all happening on my dime, with no support from Bilstein as to how much lift to expect, and how much lean, if any, I'll develop from two identical coils, I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Anyway, they're going in on Thursday night ...

I'll take measurements before and after. I've got spacers to deal with small discrepancies fore and aft. I'm only shooting for about 1 1/2" of lift in the front .. Trying the second circlip groove.

Do you have any compiled info on what your customers have found with their installs? I'm specifically looking for info on what settings occur with a V8 4x4.

It would take a bit of time on your part, but any chance of emailing your customers requesting this info for their particular trucks?

How did it turn out? Which model/engine do you have?
