Bilstein Height Adjustable Shocks 0-2.5 inches

I was looking into toytecs web site for a lift and came across. Bilstein height adjusable shocks 0-2.5 inches (front). But there is a posting saying NOT RECCOMENDED FOR USE WITH SPACERS OR COILS UNLESS LOWEST (STOCK) SETTING IS USED. I have a 2006 sr5 4wd totally stock. I am thinking this would be a better option than using spacers ,and getting new coils for the rear. Does any one have any insight to this set up? From toytec website and bilstein it is not a full coil over just a replacement shock using your factory spring.

Sounds better to me than doing spacers. I would replace the rears also if you're doing it to match the dampening but that is just me retentiveness speaking. I think Donahoe might make a similar setup but they are coilovers, not strictly a replacement shock.
 
anybody else seen/used these shocks? i just heard about them today, and thought they seemed like a great idea. other thoughts/ideas.
 
I wouldn't provide more lift .

Seems like a shock made for something with a lift already so it can be adjusted to optimum dampening .
 
I have them on my 4r now and they are great with the OME 884s. I got them to compensiate for a arb bumper. I will be upgrading to 886s soon thought if you are interested I would make you a good deal on the 884s and the 5100s.
 
jam07sport-do (or, can) the 5100's provide lift, or are they just for already lifted vehicles like falls said? a buddy of mine has a taco and is a member of toyota nation, and he says that is what everyone is using to level out their front ends and what-not without having to buy new uca's. if they do actually lift the truck, wouldn't they be a better idea than using spacers? i'll see if i can't find a link to one of their discussions about it and post here...
 
There is no comparsion between Billes and spacers. Spacers suck I ran them on my 99 and destroyed 9 Cv axels but I was young and dumb and had no money then.

Yes then 5100s will adjust the front of you truck in 10mm incruments up to 30mm so you get factory height,+20mm or 7/8 in,+40mm or 1 and 5/8 in or 60mm 2.5 in of lift. I have the OME 884s and have the 5100 set at the first 10mm notch which gives me 2.5 in of lift with the ARB bumper.

Second dont waste your time with toytech go on ebay and search 5100 for toyota narrow by 05+taco most wont tell you they will fit a 4r. There may be a listing for FJs now I dont know. either will fit. But dont buy a kit w/rears they dont work just get the fronts.

Like I said though if you are not in a hurry I would sell you my 5100 w/ 884 ome springs for like 250 + shipping but I would have to wait till The OME stuff gets here.

i'm in no hurry! i'm trying to make myself "need" tires right now, and am kinda trying to plan a little in advance. Keep me in mind when your new loot gets here, i might be able to take them off your hands :)
 
Cool just keep in mind with spidertrax spacers and this set up you can run 285-70-17 which are 33s for the most part I have a set of DR rear spring up 4 sale right now because I up graded to 895 to hold my tire carrier. If you are looking to go up all around I am trying to get 125 + shipping. For those. I attached a picture of mine so you could see what you would get.

What size tires are you running ? What are the other specs on the truck ?? Impressive work my friend.

ARB bumper front, I built a tire carrier that holds Hi lift and cb antenna for the rear.

884s over bilstein 5100 front

DR FJ springs and OME 142s. Soon to be 895s and 142s

Black widow roofrack that I cut and welded to make it what I wanted it to be I am going to add lights this summer side and back.

Spidertrax spacers.

4R sport wheels painted black. 285/70/17 Firestone Destinations A/T.

Best part I still get 17.5mpg corrected in town and 18 on the highway.

Not really, the idea behind this is so it preloads the factory spring enough to bring extra height to it. But since you are putting a bit of preload, it will def harshen the ride up a little bit since its taking away a bit of spring stroke in exchange for height.
 
Bumping an old thread.

Anyone using the Bilstein setup? I've liked the ride & handling I've gotten out of Bilstein shocks on other 4x4s, and the 4th gen 4R could use a small leveling "lift" to the front end (1" seems good to me).
 
I have run all manner of lifts. Spacers, Donahoe(ICON), Fabtech, SAW's, etc.

These bilstein adjustables are the best bank for the buck available. I have a set on my 4runner and now also on my tacoma.

Ride very smooth and resist bottoming well. Also, they are about as cheap as it gets for a mild lift.

Try www.wheelersoffroad.com for a good deal on them.

On your 4Runner -- did the addition of the Bilsteins help the handling any?

On my completely stock '08 SR5 4Runner, the front end feels a bit undersprung (seems to crash down on compression more than I think it should). I don't know how much of that is due to the stock shocks vs. stock springs.
 
It firmed up the dampening a tad. Still rides very smooth but seems to avoid the 'squishy' feeling it used to have.

I left my rear shocks stock BTW.
