Bilstein Leak???

Has anyone experienced this? No off-road use since last Toyotacare visit, 38,000 miles. Is the reservoir connection able to be tightened, or is this done? And, are they able to reload it, or does it need to be replaced? Thanks for any knowledge based advice!!! =)

Is that a 5160 or the TRD rear shocks? My rear bilstein 5100's didn't even last 30k before they started leaking, they did get some decent off-road use. Any shock can leak prematurely regardless of taking off-road or not. Those don't have the lifetime warranty do they?

Unfortunately, this was very common for the first batch of the 5160s. Had the same thing happen within 1000 miles. Get in contact with the vendor who sold you these guys and get a warranty replacement.

That looks like a TRD Pro shock (looking at the reservoir mount). It may or may not have a lifetime warranty :shrug:

The 5160's have a LIMITED 90 DAY WARRANTY.

Wow that thing puked hard at the Banjo bolt! I have had great luck with bilsteins in the past but the last few years their quality seems to be hit or miss. Any way it needs to be replaced as they are not set up to be rebuilt.

Til this day, I'm still waiting on Bilstein for a response on the my 5160 that I sent in many months ago.

Necro post update.

My 2016 TRD Pro sprung a leak. Right front shock completely emptied. 19k on the truck with no real off road stuff.

At the stealership now. Will be for about 8 days. They didn't know that the shocks could not be shipped via air.

They are taking care of it, in theory.

If you can't warranty a product for more than 90 days and make it limited at that; then you shouldn't be making it. That should be a red flag right there.

Hey guys,
Just an update on my OP...(albeit a very LATE update)
If anyone else experiences this, this may be good to know. Sport City Toyota did me a solid. BOTH rears were replaced free of charge after my service manager (Raymond) took it to his boss. Now, I have a pretty good relationship with the guy...he does me right, and I went into it with a calm, respectful demeanor. Anyway, he took care of it, and once they ordered the shocks, he called me and had them replaced in a day. SO, it CAN be done under warranty.
