Here are the two side by side.

Lift has been installed. Dylan and I did it last weekend. Only took an hour and a half. Went with the Toytec Boss Kit. 550# springs in the front and 851's in the rear.

Not a huge fan of the black on black, I feel like a lot of people do it. I'll be changing that soon... But for now it will have to do. I got quite a bit of rake right now with the 851's in the back and no weight. Next up is the body lift so I can put the rear bumper on and get it a little more leveled out.

Very cool to see you're starting a new build from scratch! Sorry to see the old 4runner go (it was one of my favorites), but I'm sure this one will be even better! Did you sell the old one as is (less the TJM of course), or did you keep a lot of the good stuff to put on the new one?

Still have the old one. In the process of putting it back to stock. Might be putting a small TJM suspension kit on it before I sell it. (If I sell it)

I think gunmetal gray wheels look best on black trucks like mine. I just wish my wheels were a tad lighter gray, but oh well I still think it looks great.

By the way, I've lurked around on this forum long before I ever bought a 4runner but I believe I saw your 96' on Yotatech a while back on the "sweet rigs" page. I was in the market for a 1st Gen Tacoma at the time, and eventually decided I wanted a 3rd Gen 4runner after seeing all the pictures of your truck at MOAB.

Thanks! I'm a big fan of your rims. I think they look real nice. I'm definitely considering a gun metal. I really like the TRD FJ rims in gun metal. Just really hard to find a set...

First trail run is in the books. Went and ran Yankee Hill with Shawnstcyr, Glen, Gerdo, 5runner, duhockey, and some other RM4x4 members.

As for new mods, I got my 1.5" Toytec Body Lift installed, tinted the front windows 5%, and rear privacy glass to 15%. Also put on my Bud-built front skid, and Lil' Skips belly Skid.

Up Next; Front and Rear Bumpers, and Lil' Skips gas tank skid. The '96 is back to stock suspension. It's not getting much love lately. I'll have to post some pictures of it too.

They are really similar to the ones Toytec sells now, except they use Toytec's new shock. It isn't a bilstein. I'll post up some more details once Toytec is selling them.

Not a whole lot to report over the weekend. Been below 0 most of the weekend and honestly just too damn cold for me to be motivated to work in a non-inuslated, unheated garage. But I did get my new wheels and tires put on!

For wheels I decided to go with the anodized bronze Konig Countersteer Offroad rims from FN Wheels Dustin from FN wheels was awesome to work with and had great customer service. I'd highly recommend the guys at FN wheels to everyone on the forum.

Here are the specs on the wheels:

Diameter: 16"
Width: 8"
Bolt pattern (PCD): 6x139.7mm
Offset: 0mm
Backspacing: 4.5"

Running these without the center caps. Tires are used Yokohama Geolander MT's 305/70/16's. I bought from my good buddy Glen. I know he's excited that someone else will be running his favorite tire. Just one last note before the pics. The rims did not push the tire out far enough to avoid rubbing on the UCA, so I put my spidertrax wheel spacers that I had from my previous build on as well.

I think it will look much better without the chrome bumpers. That should be happening very soon. The front bumper is off to powder coat tomorrow. And the rear bumper is just begging to be put on.

Do you think the tires rubbed because they were 305s and not 285? I thought those wheels had enough backspacing for tires that wide.

Thank you sir! Yeah, the 285's were fairly close to rubbing when I had them on there, but still had a little clearance. I could get my pinky in between the tire and UCA. But with the 305's they just wouldn't fit on there. These wheels have a 0mm offset. You'd need -6mm offset to be able to run the 305's without wheels spacers. I'm running wheel spacers on the front but not that back at the moment. I'll put them on the rear once it warms up a little!

Are you running stock UCA's? You think LR/TC/Camburg would cure your 305 rub without the spacers?

Thanks man! Yeah luckily I left a couple different holes for the panhard bar to be adjusted to. I can set it at the stock height, 3" of lift or 6" of lift heights. Just haven't gotten around to changing it. Haven't driven it in a couple months anyways.

I think a new UCA will help. I'm going to be taking the LR UCA's off of the old one here soon and put them on the new rig. I'll try to put the tires back on without the wheel spacers once I have those on there and report back.

The new rig looks good so far, sn0wrunner. Like I told Dylan, the wheels look sharp... they'll definitely look better once the chrome is gone. It's got some big shoes to fill, but I'm sure it will grow up to be just as tough as the original.

The way the old one is shrinking kinda reminds me of this though... :laugh:

how are you liking those tire? i know Glen is running those and they have worked well for him, i have thought about getting those before, im just no sure how well they do in snow and ice, being as though the tread doesnt really have any sipping... how have they been working for you on road?
