Black out inside of LED Tail lights

Hey guys. In Florida having the outer plastic of the lights blacked out is illegal. I was thinking to my self, could you paint the red plastic inside of the LED tail light so that the tail light had no red in it but the outer plastic was still clear? Ive seen this done on head lights but never the LED tail lights. if you have done this or can link me to someone its greatly appreciated! thanks!!

You can try but I wouldn't recommend it.

I baked an '03 (non-LED) housing and it never came apart. Eventually the plastic melted a little and caused a flat spot in the lens so I gave up on the idea.

I don't know what it is about tail lights, but they're usually put together by a method called "vulcanizing". The two Plastics are melded together. I've melted a set of tails once to do just this. The only way I can see achieving your results would be to dremel them apart with a cutoff wheel, paint, and somehow reseal them back together.

Yeah I just don't know how I would seal it back on. I don't wanna spend 200$ then have them just be ****ed. Anyone know how this could be possible?

your probably gonna have to buy some aftermarkets if you want to change the color. if you just want to add some coolness to the rear of your 4runner, try some tail light guards. I have some and they look great

just be careful, alot of aftermarkets are apparently junk. some dont fit. and so forth. i dont know what year yours is so i just put the link of mine, an 04.

i plan on getting these in the next few weeks.

What's crazy about this is that Florida doesn't give a **** how dark ur windows are but they care about your tail lights? Ridiculous. I would just black them out, the usual way, and most likely you won't get pulled over for it. Try doing a light spray first, leave a slight tint of red and see if they say anything. I don't think they will.
