Hmmm
So my rims are looking worse and worse as time goes on. It's getting to the point where I'm considering painting them, but painting them black! I'm not sure if it's a good idea though, so I've been contemplating plasti-dipping them to see how it looks before I actually paint them..

Anyway,
What should I do?!

Use Duplicolor bedliner on them. Just make sure you really degrease and sand them. Mine started out looking really good, and they still look decent, but they've flaked over time:

I was thinking more along the lines of a flat black with a satin epoxy clear. Bedliner might be cool tho. I'll add that to the poll if i can

EDIT:
Won;t let me add it to the poll.

Oh, by all means..that sounds like it'd look good too. I've bedliner'd my last two vehicles and they both turned out really nice. The 4Runner has peeled more than the other did, though, because of a lack of prep. Just throwing it out there. :)

It would definitely be easier to bedliner it, less prep and less coats. I could do it in half the time :hungry:

Some infinti guys on their G35's sprayed there wheels in the city and its supposedly holding.

My stuff on my bumper is holding with all this salt and snow.

Should I hit it with an clear satin epoxy or something to seal it?

Paint em black!

Paint them black! I used Rust-o-leum flat black high heat engine enamel for mine. Been that way for 7 months, no chipping, nothing! Look brand new when I clean them up.

Key is to clean them good, sand them, primer and paint multiple layers and you won't have problems! I'm a flat black kinda guy so I'd high recommend it. Check out my build thread for pics.

black rims! mines been the same since i painted them. i think i used the high performance wheel paint one from autozone. for black and clear. they also got that gunmetal-ish color if you like that too. forgot the primer. but it wasnt anything fancy.

1st day of the wheels on the car.

Here I go again.....I say keep em the way they are, or paint them Gun metal or something?? I just think, that with all these 4Runners on the forum with black wheels, you're just going to look exactly like one of them.....My 2 cents, but I am always looking for something different to see, and black rims are something you see ALOT of!

If I were you, I'd save up some cash, buy some new wheels, and sell your other ones in stock form.

Let the flaming begin!

Amen! The blacked out thing is soooo played out and IMO it really doesn't look that great. I'm not a fan of ARB bumpers either. Every time I see one with those giant tubes on there it screams Smittybuilt at me. How's that for setting yourself up for some flaming:moon:

It's so burnt out on Forum cars, but in the real world on really Cherokee's and a handful of other cars have black wheels when you compare them to chrome or silver.

I like some bling in my wheels. My first gen had Alcoa's that you could shave in the reflection. Scotty's rig has a nice balance IMO. Black rig, black bumpers and sliders. But he left the chrome grill and emblems and threw some polished alum. rims at it. Tasteful and not too much of either black or shine. I personally think people get carried away with the color match as well. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

PS... ARB bumpers are ugly!

I agree on the ARB bumper. I love the OutdoorLogic bumper, but can't afford one.

I'm one of the only people around here with black rims, so people kind of know me for it. Although, I would throw some polished aluminum wheels on there if I could find them cheap enough.

How dare you guys have a different opinion! Lol. J/K. I love my black wheels, but could totally see how people might be getting tired of the look.
