after the first good run on the free way after i install new plug wires, they sometimes come off. witch one did, and now it has a better idea, and i replaced the fuel pump and fuel flitter, and cleaned the butterflie opener.

i still dont know how to fix the code 31. its annoying

if i have the tps adjusted all the way up, it has that code on, and if i put my foot on the gas pedle, it will die and back fire. if i have the tps set in the middle it doesnt back fire and runs good, just has a stupid check engine light on ( code 31 )

As for the wires yes I agree with 541Joseph or wrong wires/not secured on the plug?

Ok I am breaking the FSM out...

The TPS should be set in spec with a multi-meter.
FSM says to adjust TPS

1. loosen (2) screws of the sensor.

2. Insert thickness gauge (0.62mm or 0.0244in.) between the throttle stop screw and lever, and connect the ohmmeter to terminals IDL and E2.

3. Gradually turn the senser clockwise until the ohmmeter deflects, and secure the sensor with (2) screws.

Also what it says in my FSM

"Code 31 Air flow meter circuit.

Diagnosis: open circuit in Vc signal or short circuit between Vc and E2. When idle contacts are closed.

Trouble area: Air flow meter circuit. Air flow meter. ECU."

I saw in your other thread that you replaced the harness on the Air flow meter? so we know its probably not the wiring. If you can find one in a junkyard swap the meter itself and see what happens. I was told though by a toyota mechanic that when a Air flow meter goes bad either it works or doesn't (engine wouldnt run?)

If the ECU was bad truck would be all sorts of crazy if it ran at all.

Yea we'll I mean I have a life time warranty on my MAF, so I'll just return it and get a new one and see what happens then, after I adjust the tps correctly

No not running its just supposed to be off

That's what I thought, just was making sure, I got the new MAF and going to adjust the tps tomorrow and let's you guys know how it's going

i adjusted the tps, put timming belt on weres it is suppose to me and bought a new MAF.
