Black Wheels

I'm thinking about painting my wheels black. Does anyone have any photos? I'm looking through the photo section and I can't find any. My 4runner is white and I'm not sure if the black will look good or not.

It'll look good but I think the black wheels are a bit played out and it seems every Jeep Cherokee Sport I see around here has 'em.

Maybe try more of a gunmetal or charcoal silver might be a bit more original.

I was also thinking about just going ahead and blacking out the rims on my 95 4runner. they have the spray on black paint at like autozone, would that be sufficient enough or should i go with another kind of paint?

Rattle can should be fine, but at least do rattle can primer before hand. Rust Oleam makes a good primer that is about 3 bucks a can. Get that and some black and it should work just fine.

Thanks for the input. I went ahead today and started. It's a lot of work getting them sanded. I went with Duplicolor primer and flat black engine paint. I also got some clear coat spray. I can only do two wheels at a time so it will probably take a few days to finish but I'll put some photos up when I'm done.

My rims were pretty much shot due to their age and the stuff they put on the roads here in winter is really harsh. So I thought black would be good. Might help to make the truck look a little more tough, too. :p

oh... and I think it's time to put away the running boards too.

Whoa! Those look sweet!!

It looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me. A lot of the stock clear coat had already peeled off but the stuff that is still on is really tough to sand off. It's gonna take some time but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

Definitely take your time as it will be well worth it in the end. I started with wheels that were only about 1 year old so my prep work was a little more minimal. Good luck and be sure and post pics.

I thought about using the black primer but was worried that i wouldn't be able to see places that I missed when spraying on the black paint, so I went with grey.

Should be able to finish the final coats in the morning before work and clear coats in the afternoon. Then I have to mount up those 2 and start on the fronts. Should be done by mid-week. And I'll have pics, don't worry.

THIS IS SO FUN!!! :biggrin2:
