Black Wheels

Hey I'm slowly working on blacking out my 2004 4runner. It is white but i have a black brush gaurd, black tailights and im going t get my emblems paints black as well. i was wondering what i should do about wheels. I want to keep stock because i have better things to spend my money on since im in college... should i get my stock ones painted, or spray paint. how much would it cost to get my 17" stocks paints black?

I'd say $150 at least. Probably depends on where you live too.

When I looked it was around $65 a rim here in SoCal. I am also in school so I try (and usually fail) to save money when at all possible and decided that powdercoating was not a smart choice.

I actually ended up painting my wheels black myself, they came out great and I am still very happy that I did it.

Be original and keep them stock since black wheels are everywhere now;even the 65 year old lady across the street bought black rims for her Jeep Cherokee so yes,everybody and their grandma does have them. :boxer:

I went with the spray paint option on some FJC wheels. It looks great. Although I tried to go with a more flat look. I ended up going with duplicolor wheel paint, the black satin. That was over a year ago and the wheels are holding up great. I think I paid around 30-40 bucks in supplies. I just sanded down the wheel, washed it, and then put tape and paper around the tire and painted. I was in a hurry with 2 of them and I got a blob of paint on it, but you can only see it if you're really looking. The center caps I actually painted a few weeks before the wheels, but I painted those shadow mica. Can't tell the difference, but I think it looks sharp with the silver toyota emblem and lugs.

When I touch them up, I'm going to go with a flatter black.

I have had mine painted for some time and had no problems other then actual gouges from rocks while wheeling. The beauty of rattle can is you can just sand them quickly and hit them with another coat of paint and it will look as good as new.

Did you paint the calipers yourself?

yea,clean real good with brake cleaner,and sprayed with red high temp engine enamal. they were brand new so i did that before installing them.
