Black Wheels..

What are the best black rims out there? I have a Silver 4Runner and am assuming black wheels would hold up better in Norther Idaho all year round rather than the chrome polish ones.

I would like to equip it with 20's, any suggestions?

I think I would want all black wheels, when you start throwing cgrome accents in there it begins to look cheezy.

I agree, Fo_Sheezys rims are sick...
 
don't get rockstars they look nice but everybody has them.. if you are getting aftermarket and investing a decent amount of $$..try to go with something not only that looks good to your eyes but also unique and/or different to the rest of the world!....

I resist the idea since there's so many car and trucks (especially Jeeps of every year) around just my block with black wheels.

I do agree with JAC,if you aren going along with the trend then try to be original but at any distance over 20ft or while driving they look no different than than a cheapo set of steelies or the guy who lost his hubcaps. :nerd:

99 out of 100 4Rs I see out on the road run stock wheels.

I run the 18" limited wheels powdercoated gloss black.

i love them.

i'm not a fan of aftermarket wheels on 4Rs especially anything bigger than 18s.

leave the big wheels for the flashy-SUVs like the Rovers, G wagons, etc is my directive.

4R is a rugged truck and needs ample sidewalls.

+1...I like aftermarket wheels on 4R's but not ones bigger than 18s
 
Like I said..."IF" you are going with aftermarket try something unique. If u are staying stock size then just powdercoat the stock rims and look like every one else just try not to get confuse and get into someone elses rig at the parking lot after a meet up...LOL....J/K.
It depends also if u do offroading or just stay onroad .I am asuming because u want 20" u are going for the looks.... So just buy what looks nice to "your " eyes and performs nice enough for te street. Regardless if the 4runner is a rugged truck or not.

Not here in Colorado but then again we have one of the larger 4Runners per capita populations in the US of every generation but it's not just 4Runners i'm referring to,it's the whole vehicle scene. If I see a ton of 4Runners running TRD stickers around town then it's time for mine to go.
When grandma and grandpa are running black rims I knew I wasn't going to be doing it.

I know my truck isn't what you'd call exciting and different but it's a good example of what Toyota could have offered as a TRD packaged 4Runner and I like keeping it pretty close to factory (with improved off road capabilities) plus a pricey set of wheels getting dinked off road would hurt my feelings more than my set of Limited getting the same dink.

It's all good,I'm just giving a different point of view and that doesn't mean some vehicles don't look fantastic with black rims but some people choose such common wheels you chance sitting at a light with a vehicle that mirrors yours and I've seen that around here more than you'd think.
FJs with black rims are quite common here and they look no different no matter if the rims are $100 or $1000.

The 4Runner is a mass produced SUV that you see everyday driven by all types of people. as great is its value along the utility and reliability front, it's very weak in the brand panache and valet power measures.

so when we mod, we all do this not because we're feeling exclusive or special but because we flat out like it. there is no badge ego here. just straight up love and appreciation for the value.

so for me, my "murdered out" v8 limited does not get me the coveted looks like the sports car i drive. so if i see another "murdered out" truck, i nod in appreciation.

so i couldn't care less how many black wheeled trucks are out there. they look great just like a custom navy suit with peak lapels, pick stitching, and side vents. :D what i'm saying is, black wheels are not the new pink wheels. it's black. tires are black. formal wear is black. black interiors are popular. black cars will always sell well.

heck i'm looking at picking up a G55 AMG and i'm going to black it out.

so at the end of the day, get what pleases you but... my guidance is... stick to 17s or 18s. Dubs are way too big and not the right look for a rugged utility truck.
