Blacked-out Emblems

What kind of paint did you use? I have seen some outdoor spray paints that are really good with no topcoat. You would just prep the emblems and do 3 or 4 coats of paint, each with the recomended time in between for setting.

This is what I would use except I would still lightly prep the surface with super fine paper. Wash it and then allow it dry completely. You could easily do 4 coats then.

I was using Testor's flat black spray paint and Testor's flat clear coat enamel. I'll try that Dupont you posted, that sounds like it would work for the emblems. Thanks for the link.

And 808TRDRunner- I had thought about leaving it debadged and maybe I will down the road but right now I like the look of having the black emblems on the silver paint.

Welp, cross that off my "To-Do" list! Hopefully in the mail this week I'll be getting my custom 3rd brake light; Vortex Muffler; T4R sticker; and the LED Dome light. I went on a buying spree a few days ago

Those black emblems look great, good work!

A tip for getting the hard, dried emblem glue off (or any stickers or emblems) that are on your vehicle is to hit it with some heat from a heat gun on low setting or a hair dryer if you don't have a heat gun. It will soften up the glue and you can often peel chunks of it off then.

It also makes it easier to get the rest off with Goo Gone or other solvent.

Yeah that was my original method but I was having mixed success with it. The lighter fluid method worked great for me though so if anyone is having trouble getting the dried adhesive off with the blow dryer/Goo Gone method, I would recommend lighter fluid.

Haha yeah. For some reason, whenever I think of Ellicott City I always picture The Wizard of Oz and the Emerald City. Ellicott City/Emerald City, close enough.
