Blazeland Long Travel - 1987 5-Speed 22re

Ordered a Blazeland long travel kit a couple of weeks ago and am anxiously awaiting its arrival, but i have a few questions for any of the guys who have experience with the setup.

What torsion bars are you running and are you happy with them?

I currently have a set of 26mm torsion bars on the truck and they are harsh. However i am reluctant to get rid of them if they will perform well with the new setup. His website recommends larger torsion bars, but i am looking for opinions from users here.

Where did you source your T100 CV shafts from and have you been happy with them?

Been looking at NAPA remanufactured shafts, but am not sold. Cant seem to find a t100 being parted out in my area to snag the factory shafts.

Are any of you guys running 35's with the kit?

I have seen mostly 33's being paired with this kit, while it looks good, i would rather keep my current wheel and tire setup.

Sweet! I been thinking about doing the same to my 4runner. But I need to finish up the pickup before I get to the 4runner. I plan on running 35s with my truck and coilovers. I might do the blazeland DIY kit since I got all the tools to do it. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Keep us updated.

any T-100 that is getting parted out the CV's would more than likely be shot since they have not been made for 20 years

On my old 4Runner I had the total chaos kit and used reman axles from autozone I think and gave my old axles back as a core. Never had any issues with them.

Glad to hear that, I know they also have a decent warranty on their CV's

As a long time drooler and dreamer for long travel in my 4runner I think Ive read every thread out there on it. The larger torsion bars are recomended with the LT since the arms are longer and have more leverage. Supposedly they ride great. Im also looking at ordering the weld up kit soon for mine! Building a new to me '87!

Dont put that evil on me, hahaha! This is supposed to make the truck everything i want it to be! well almost... soft top, tube doors, full length roll cage, engine swap, winch, etc. One of them never-ending wish list situations

Oh I know all about that list! After rolling my '89 I plan on doing an exo cage on this one, cutting whats left of the hardtop from the old truck for a halftop and the doors for half doors. Dont forget the chevy leafs swap for the rear of yours! Once you have all that flex in the front your going to want the back to ride just as good. If I hadnt bought OME springs before I knew about the 63" spring swap.......

Funny thing is, i actually just installed a set of OME springs into the truck to overcome the flat, kinked factory springs. I would have gone with chevy springs, but didn't have the equipment available to relocate the spring hangers and the shackle hangers. That is for a little further down the road

Wow thats kinda funny. I have OME rear springs on the pickup. Now Im going to Chevy 63s lol. I think the OME springs ride like ass tbh.

The OME springs ride much better than the old springs, but they have been much stiffer than I had anticipated and will probably change them out in a year or so for some flexier springs... need to move out of this apartment!

I had 62" deavers on my last 4Runner and have OME on my current one. The OME are way stiffer.

Yeah I know OME makes a quality product and everyone swears by them but if I had known more I wouldve waited and done chevy springs. Still considering it!

Can you post photos of your Blazeland setup once it's all installed? And what have you decided to do about your steering system? I'm getting darn close to pulling the trigger on LT setup.

Can you let us know how the truck handles on-road as well as off? I'm curious about how these long arm kits influence high speed freeway manners.

It looks like you have a super clean 1st gen! Nice build man!

The steering system will remain mostly factory, the Blazeland kit comes with extended adjustment sleeves to accommodate the added length. I have an old Downey Idler arm brace which i will be putting on as well. I just installed new inner and outer tie rod ends a few months ago.

I plan on taking tons of pictures during the install and will be sure to post them here.

Thanks for the compliment! I love this truck. I only wish it had more power for highway driving.

The Blazeland kit came in the mail yesterday. I had planned on doing the install this weekend, but found something that may cause delays unless i can get it sorted out today. I have two alignment cams that are completely seized. There is a guy local to me who says he may have a couple that he can spare, don't know what he wants for them but i hope i can get them today.

Looks like I can buy them from Summit and Jegs for about $35 per cam bolt. That's a bit more than i want to pay for what is essentially a bolt with a flat section machined into it.

Found out two of my alignment cams were seized a couple of days ago. Managed to get ahold of a local guy who had some parts trucks he let me raid for a price. Thank god for parts trucks. Anywho, moving forward with the install this weekend. Just a shot of everything together
