bleeding brake while Engine is On

Any negative effect by bleeding the brakes while the engine is running? I've tried several ways of bleeding the brake from the traditional method, to the ignition in the ON position for the rear brakes and ignition in OFF position for the front. It was just much easier to get the brake fluid flowing through all 4 corners when the engine was running.

But I notice while driving, every time when I tap the brake pedal I would hear the ABS motor buzzing and making sound. Is that normal? I know when you turn on the car you would hear the ABS pump buzzing for quick few seconds, but always doing it while driving? Just paranoid about it since I've replaced my front caliper and bleeding the brake multiple time.

It's OK to do with the engine on. I think it's actually recommended in the service manual.

The pump should come on sometimes when you are driving, but every time you use the brakes might be too much. I'm also paranoid that mine is running too much after I bled the brakes. hearing/feeling the abs motor buzz/pulse isnt good..........its a sign that its gonna kick the bucket soon...at least mine did that for about 20months before it crapped out

as per bleeding...try doing that with a techstream..folks has had good succes with that

I did, but I decided it wasn't that helpful. It doesn't do the fronts, and it does the rears very slowly because it limits you to a low duty cycle. It's probably the best way if you get air in the MC, otherwise it doesn't seem necessary.

Depends on how loud the noise is and how sensitive the person driving is. You get used to it driving the 4Runner, but some people still notice it over the din of the engine (if not barely.)

It will engage for a short while after a stop or two to repressurize the system.

The split seconds buzz is with every other time I tap the brake. Not loud or long, you can hear the quick buzz for like less than a full second. I'm really paranoid. Pedal doesn't pulse or anything. If ABS module crapped out, how bad is it? Signs and symptoms? Expensive? Just to prepare myself for that day if it comes.

Bad. There's a constant beeping and warning light, then the power assist stops working after a few presses on the pedal, and it's like $2000 to fix.

It sounds like yours is running a normal amount, but keep us updated if it fails.

Is it any different or louder than before working on the brakes? Maybe you just notice it more easily now?

so any update on this?
