Blind spot detection mirrors

I was recently riding in a freind's RAV4 and her car had the blind spot detection outside mirrors. The mirrors looked quite identical to the ones on the 4Runner (similar shape and size), but I'm curious what would be involved with installing/ retrofitting these to the 4Runner. I'm not sure if they use separate sensors on the outside of the vehicle to detect something in that space or if it is housed in the mirror itself. I didn't take a close look.

I also did a search in the forums and couldn't find anything. I know this is a possible flame post, and it really isn't an important addition, but I'm not the only one that drives the 4Runner and I can see how it would be helpful.

Going out on a limb, I think the OP was referring to the electronic style of blindspot detection, where the mirror has a yellow or orange back light area that lights up when someone is in the blind spot.

I think the more electronic version would be slick, but would require multiple sensors and who knows what calibrations to get the right angles and distance.

Anyone can stick a mirror onto another mirror and get better blind spot angles, even my wife.......
A little more complicated is the link above swapping out the mirrors for different mirrors, but it's still old tech and no more useful that sticking a mirror onto another mirror.

Probably need some kinda stupid body computer to make it work. Would be cool thou

There are lots on Ebay and amazon. Cant say they are the best but it's something haha. The RAVs blind assist also requires the motion detectors on the bumper which means the need for their computer parts, etc. On top of that getting the right angles and such so that you dont get false positives.

Thanks guys...that's what I was thinking. I figured there were more sensors around the vehicle that I didn't see or pay attention to. It wasn't a necessity, just something that would've been nice to install IF it was easy and not too cost prohibitive (which it sounds as if it would be).

I was also very interested in doing this on my 2010. It's one of those luxuries that most newer vehicles come with nowadays that I really wish mine had. Has anyone made anything that would make this an easy mirror swap since this post was originally posted?
