blinker/daytime running light

im guessing most likely the running light filaments broke
on mine the drivers side goes out randomly and its both the daytime running light as well as the blinker that doesnt work.
if i tap on the lens it works fine for a few days more so i need to see whats going on with it but im assuming the element is broken and tapping on it makes contact again
wow, i sure dont like to hear the sound of that.
is it the headlight housing itself that melts, or is it a plug in type of a socket you can buy to fix it?

It's a plug-in socket. Apparently most Toyota dealers stock them. The turn signal/DRL bulbs are dual filament, Toyota's DRL design powers both the dim and bright filaments which creates quite a bit of heat.
thanks, sounds like i may as well replace both sockets then and put in LED bulbs so it doesnt get hot
would you by any chance remember the part number for the socket and is it left/right specific or (i would assume) the same socket fits both sides

Sorry I don't, I know it's been posted here before though, same part # for both.
hmm ok i have been searching threads and it seams very confusing but i gather mine is made into and a part of the headlight itself and uses a regular normal turn signal type bulb.
looking at my parts listing the blade style twist in turn signal socket part number no longer applies to my vehicle ToyoDIY.com
and then the light bulbs are the only other parts listed besides the full headlight assembly ToyoDIY.com
so maybe they changed the design in the 06 when they changed all the rear lights to LEDs
for reference mine is a 2006 sport version with the turn signals as part of the single headlight unit assembly, the only other lights are the driving lights where earlier 4runners used to have the turn signals at.
i just never had any time to get into it, but tomorrow i will take out the battery, and then remove the headlight, just so i can get to the turn signal bulbs and see whats going on

ok well in 2006 yes they did change the type of bulbs when they changed the front lights. 2006 and newer use the 1156A bulbs for daytime driving/flasher bulbs so i just bought a set of 1156ALL (amber long life bulbs).
also the tiny marker lights use the 194A wedge bulbs so i bought a set of T10 amber LED wedge bulbs for those and then i put regular T10 white LED wedge bulbs for the license plate lights since one of those had burnt out.
my headlights arent as bad as i thought so i will just give them a good wax and buff to bring back the clear. once to remove the factory finish on them you have to do constant maint to keep them clear and im way too lazy for that so at some point in another 3-4 years i will just have to buy some new replacement headlights i guess.
the only thing to decide on is getting another set of OEM headlights at $215 each which has lasted 10 years or go with cheap aftermarkets at $80 each that only last 2-3 years before they start fading. logic says the OEM are the smarter buy but dropping $430 for a pair of headlights is rough

Hi, I have a 03 sport edition 4runner - i went through a car wash and both front turn signals do not work and the case is full of water/moisture. i ordered the case and bulbs (including running lights for my model/year) and I cannot find anywhere how to get the old ones out. Do i take them out from the front or do i need to have someone pull the bumper for access? thanks for any advice.

THanks very much. My turn signals are on the bottom though - like this video below - BUT i need to replace the whole casing - the whole clear piece - on both sides - and i don't know how to get the clear pieces out.

By "clear piece" I'm assuming you meant the lens. Unfortunately, the lens is a part of the housing and you have to buy the whole housing. The lens is not removable / replaceable by itself.

I'm also looking for part number for this socket. 2006 4R Sport with DRL. Takes the 1156 bulbs. Broken bulb while removing and couldn't get the broken socket out of the assembly.
