The most humorous part about this whole Nevada states rights news blip is that Nevada has a LONG history of be a pro-Federal government state.

In fact this guy Bundy has lost numerous appeals because his case doesn't have a leg to stand on.


Here is Article 1, Section 2 of the Nevada Constitution:

Sec: 2.  Purpose of government; paramount allegiance to United States.  All political power is inherent in the people[.] Government is instituted for the protection, security and benefit of the people; and they have the right to alter or reform the same whenever the public good may require it.

That was written in 1864. There is over 150+ years of history of Nevada gladly giving up it sovereignty for the Union.

I don't know what it is.

When I was doing manual labor (yard work and sprinkler installation) to put myself through college, my friends were sitting around in coffee shops playing guitars and writing screenplays--or smearing paint on canvas.

I have a real job now, over 15 years later, they're still living with their parents.

I definitely sympathize with your sentiments but one of the reasons I believe English and women's studies majors don't find work isn't because they are lazy its often because there are no jobs in those fields.

Whose fault is that? Not yours or mine.

But it doesn't mean they are lazy by default.

finishing my 4th year of studying English and criminal justice, two of the more "useless" majors offered here. doesn't matter what your major is for a lot of jobs, most of the recruiters look at your GPA and resume unless it's something where previous knowledge is required like engineering or nursing. For what it's worth, I'm going into financial litigation starting in July and have had the job lined up since 2013. I think lazy people are lazy and I think people who want to go out and get shit done are going to do so. Most of my friends going into finance or consulting (which are the big things to do out of college now) didn't go to the business school, but majored in something "useless" and are just motivated people who have gotten good grades, tried hard and interview well.

I would think almost any major from U-Penn with a GPA above 3.5 can find a job.

The vast vast majority of English majors are probably in a much tighter spot.

We'll find out when I start in July. The Job title is "analyst" JD or MBA could be in the cards down the road, but no intention of going back to school for a while.

If you have an Ivy League education, good GPA, and can't find a job, despite not going on to Wharton, something is wrong. The school, not so much the major these days ( excluding medicine, engineering, schoolteacher) is more important. It is the idea I tried to sell to 4RunningDaily to choose Mines, and not ASU.

I went to a liberal arts college, got four bachelors degrees with a 3.7 GPA and still needed an MBA to get the job I have now. PITA but zero debt. Plenty of English majors where I went with the 2.0 and go mentality.

Agree with this for the most part, but my GF is a teacher and when on her job search, the schools generally want to see a degree in the field of study in which you will be teaching. Interest shift happening in the education world. I think we're on the same page otherwise - and thanks, I'm looking forward to starting in July.
