Blown Amp?

Hey All,

I'm not getting much sound out of my '04 JBL system lately. I have to turn the volume up to 45 or so just to hear it at highway speed and there is hardly any sound from the rear (including the sub). I test drove an 06 today and heard it just fine at 10. Took it to the dealer and they said it's fine. Anyone else have any problems like this? Thanks!

Have you made sure the surroud sound wasn't turned off?

I know i did that by mistake once, and it really make the audio sound bad.

Yeah, tried that. I tried everything. There is definitely something wrong. I may just take it to a different dealer and get them to fix it. Thanks for the reply.

Amp?

I thought I had the same problem.
The first thing I though the first time I owned the truck was that the volume dial went up to 100, to my surprise it only went up to 62 or so.

Lety me tell you that if you try feeding music from an MP3 throught the tape deck the volume goes up higher. I dont think it is a good idea to jack up the volume this way for the speakers but one gets more volume out of it.

It also depends on what type of music you are playing, some is recorded at lower volume. Try some techno or something naturally loud like that and crank it up to HIGH w/ Surround ON.

I noticed that the rear speakers, the small ones that is, do not put out much sound.

with volume my range is 39-54 depending on the song. I put the Rear speaker on R3 and find this to generate a fuller sound through out the truck.

level 10 is preety low on mine. Perhaps you are right and this might mean that the amp is blown. I definetely would like to know of any sound gurus here what they think. I expect higher performance from an upgraded stock stereo sys.

This JBL system has been finiky with me also. I hopped in started my car... and the radio didn't even work. it lit up, not a single peep came out of it... tried turning it on and off but no avail. Then I turned my truck off. and turned it back on and it worked again!

This only happened to me like three times.... So I decided to forget it. It hasn't happened to me recently at all.

Honestly if your still getting sound out of your headunit, the source is fine, however your amp may have some issue with it. If no sound is coming out of the sub, the amp might have failed.

Let me know... The dealership should fix this....

I am less worried about it now.. I bought an 06 last week that should be here by the end of the week. It still sounds like there is nothing coming from the back speakers, but the same dealer that said there is nothing wrong ate their words when I traded it in to them!

Amp

Now this is what I call "Sound Motivation". You bought an '06? Very nice, I've yet to see one on the road.
What options did you get on this one? Did you go with the 10 speaker set up again? Is the system on the '06 still JBL Synthesis?

What was the verdict on the amp for the '04? Blown?

once you get your '06 you got to get your self an AVATAR
